I was just wondering how the two compared in training and the kind of missions they do. Any ideas?

well Force Recon doesn't really exist anymore. Now they're either Deep Recon Platoons in the Recon Battalions or they are MARSOC.

look them both up on wikipedia.

Here's some info on the Basic Recon Course for Marines.

Force Recon does exist. It was disbanded so they wouldn't have to be under SOCOM control, so says my USMC recruiter.

But the name in itself, Recon, shows that its main purpose is for reconnaissance missions. They still do direct action missions, just not as much as the SEALs.

Also, you now need only a 3rd class swim qualification and score 185 on the PFT. They're doing this to increase the size of Recon.

The Force Recon reserve unit/s still exist, but I meant active duty. Unless I've been told wrong.

In no way am I trying to argue with you, but there is active duty Force Recon. It's recent news, so I'm not sure how much the USMC has made it public knowledge.
