Hello to all,

Just wanted to take a second to introduce myself and also ask a couple of questions. I am 26/m/6'3/190 and I am very interested in SWCC. I have been reading alot of info hear and on other sites and I am very interested. I was a scholarship athlete in swimming at the University of Cincinnati for 4 years and after I graduated I went the whole corporate America route. I make a good living but I miss competing, training, being part of a team and overall I just want to serve my country that has given me all the opportunities that I have had in life.

Needless to say I am looking to join up very soon, after I tell the wife, and make an impact. I have been doing crossfit for the last couple of months and yesterday started doing a scaled down version of the WOD from here. I have no problem with the physical aspects of the PST. I haven't swam in a while but due to my background it is generally easier for me to pick up swimming than most. I ran a 12 minute 1.5 mile yesterday after having not run in months and can get it down to at least a 10 min. Not sure how many pushups or situps I can do but I have never had a problem with them. Also, I know I can do upwards of 15 pullups. When given 2 minutes to accomplish the exercises such as pushups and situps, are they straight or can you stop in the 2 minutes and continue?

I also am going to get my eyes checked next week as it has been awhile since I have done that. My right eye has always been good but my left has always been weak. Hopefully that will not disqualify me. I also am going to study a bit for the AVASB as it has been a couple of years since I have been in school. That pretty much sums up alot about me. If anybody can help with my one question that would be great. I look forward to possibly serving with you all in the future.

You may not have time to stop. Of course there is a minimum of each that you must do, but you don't want to do ONLY the minimum. You need to do as many as you can in the time given. You should strive to far EXCEED the minimum.

So, you may stop, but remember that it is at your own risk...

Just wanted to quickly comment on this, being a wife myself.

I know you are fully aware of what being SWCC entails, however do not make light of the sacrifices that your wife will have to make in order for you to do your job. Please discuss everything with her. Realize that you will very likely spend a LOT of time away from home for training and deployments. In my case, out of the last 36 months I have seen my husband a total of 13 months, not consecutively (the longest consecutive span was 4 months). Be sure that she is understands that and is prepared to endure lengths of time without you. If not, your decision to become SWCC can put unnecessary stress on your marriage.

Just my twopence.

Thanks for the replies, it is appreciated. By stopping I mean if I do 40 pushups take a 10 sec. break and then continue to do more for a higher total number is that allowed or do you have to do 60 straight and that is your test number even if there is time left.

you can take a few second rest in between, however it is better to push them out at a pace that will allow you to push til the time runs out.

I understand, I can do around 50-60 straight in less than 2 mins depending on the day, but with a couple of seconds rest in there I can do plenty more. I assume you must stay in the pushup position when taking these short rests. Thank you for the clarification.

The rules for the push ups are the same as for the Navy PFA, except you may or may not have to touch your chest to a closed fist under your chest each repetition. You may rest in the up position, though you may not touch the ground or take your hands off the ground (to shake them out for example). My suggestion is go as fast as you can as long as you can. Then rest. I usually do a few sets of 10 after than, then 5 as I get tired. Generally, if you have trained, you should be able to do 3-5 pushups after a couple of seconds rest, no matter how tired you are.

Welcome to the site, I wish you luck, and we are here to help. Get your wife involved here as well. We would like to see more of our SWCC and prospective SWCC wives on here. I am married with two kids, so I have some perspective on being married in the Navy.

Thanks for the advice and the welcome. If something is not hard and challenging I don't find much point in it, hence why if I am going to join the military I want to join one of the elite units out there. I have been doing crossfit for a couple of months now so I have not focused on pushups but I have now. I also have started running more since I was only doing the running that was off of the crossfit.com website. Since Fri. I have switched to the WOD from this site and I am going to incorporate pushups more and more. The goal is 100 and I think with the current shap I am in it is not out of the realm of possibilities. Also, the swim does not worry me but or course I have never swam in BDU's and boots but I am sure most people have not. The water is a environment that I am very comfortable in due to my background but I have never been a fan of cold water. Obviously, with the pacific ocean I am going to have to get used to it. I have learned a great deal about the community already and I will continue to do so. The site is great and full of alot of info. I have also met a contact over at Crossfit.com who was an operator for 7 years. I do not want to release his name on a public forum but if you email me and want to get that info I will get it to you K.
