Well I've heard a lot of reference to the diets at BUD/S and how during Hell Week they feed you every 6 hours but I haven't been able to find what exactly they feed you.

You may be wondering why I need to know. Well, I've been getting more and more into the Crossfit philosophy although I can't agree with one of the diets that they encourage - the Paleolithic. Even though I'm sure it's a good idea, first of all it seems really difficult to manage, I still want to eat foods I like, and third of all, I really don't think it's going to bode well with a career as an operator.

I figure the best way to prepare is to eat healthy, but also don't become so dependent on a diet so that when I get to BUD/S it's going to be a shock.
Right now my diet is pretty good and I'm slowly putting on a little weight (I'm 5-8, only 147). I also can't follow the Crossfit idea of only 40% carbs because I run so much that I need lots of energy.

So what types of meals do you get at BUD/S? I'm sure most of it is food that is going to refuel you, but it can't all be perfectly healthy, right? I mean in the Warrior Elite it takes about guys eating candy bars in the RIB's and eating pizza with soda and beer on Friday nights.

back to what scskowron brought up. How often do you eat in BUD/s. I mean I'm sure they don't deprive you of food, but I'm just curious.

Haa.. The lobsters are even all caged up for you, with big buoys pointing them out, like a sign from heaven. You just have to be devoted enough to go back out in the water at night while everyone on the boats are asleep...

3 times a day... Hellweek or other "out of the norm" evolutions are going to be different (i.e.: MRE's) but all in all, you get 3 meals a day. Breakfast, lunch and dinner. You'll eat at the NAB chow hall... it's a normal old galley that's used by BUD/s students and other military members. Nothing special... the BUD/s line receives the same food as the other line. The only difference is, you'll get more food. Actually, sometimes you will and sometimes you won't. You'll argue daily with the "foreign" serving staff on the fact the you're in BUD/s and you're supposed to receive double meat... BUT, they'll say "choice" and you'll say, "But I thought..." and they'll just say "choice" again and you'll refuse anything different and usually, they'll give in. Basically, just do whatever you want "within reason" if you're still hungry... Believe me, you'll know what I'm talking about when you get here.

No, not really.

Galley in first phase, MRE's during hw and a lot of second phase. Galley in third.

Don't follow that, that's the most ridiculous thing I've heard 40% Carbs is a bad idea, Carbs are the best thing for a training athlete, the are energy for the body. For just the human brain and body to function properly a person needs to consume a minimum of 130 cal from carbohydrates which is roughly 30 grams a day. Someone who spends long out in the exercising requires at least carbs in the 60-70 percentile of their total calorie intake.

What's important it where you get your carbs from it can't be from pound cake and coca cola. Make sure you consume only around 10% of carbs from these sources a day giver or take a pizza knowns as simple carbs. However Sweets make great post work out snacks and pre-work out snacks to help replenish the bodies glycogen supply until you can get a meal in. Make sure you are getting a lot of complex carbohydrates in your diet, not mention you'll dookie well too!

I dont know if you have ever looked at this, http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-242-301--10200-1-1X2X3X4X5-6,00.html

but those foods sound very logical for a good diet. Also, runnersworld is often featured in health/exercise aggregated databases. With that said, they are not peer reviewed, so take this with a grain of salt.

I personally find that complex foods like meat, fish and chicken make me feel tired and lethargic afterwards. I had followed a vegetarian diet for a month and definitely saw an increase in energy, decrease in hours of sleep needed, and felt a lot better mentally throughout the day. I have lost the article, but i had found an 'effects of vegetarianism and athletes vs non-vegetarians' type of article on ProQuest which was what had made me try out vege. if your going to a college you can probably find the same article on your research databases.

However, i think the protein and additional vitamins contained in meat, fish and chicken, are vital for the situation many users on here in (lots of exercising). Also, i do not think at BUD/S you can be like, yo can i get some almonds, romaine lettuce, some raspberries, etc. instead of the normal meal? So the strict dieting is not very feasible.
