Well.....iv been running 30 miles a week for months now. I went out to a aircraft carrier and continued running on treadmills for the same distance. I came back with a stress fracture in my foot. It the bone that connects the toe to the foot. Not the big toe but the one next to it. Im waiting for my orders right now for my class and im guessing I will be leaving in febuary if I make the march class. I have not run in over a week. It feels very very slightly better, but I still am walking with much pain. Who has an idea of how soon I will be 100% again. This is the time when I am getting myselve fine tuned for BUDs and now I can't even Run. Running is what got me in to trouble the first time I was there. I might just be venting but owell thanks

There are different levels of stress fractures which will all very in time to heal. Hopefully you are on crutches. The protocal they are using at BUD/s right now is 2 weeks on crutches, 2 weeks w/o, then after week four you will start your fast walk/ run protocal. If you would like me to send you a copy of the running scheduel let me know and i will e mail it to you.
Things you can do to speed it up:
1. Stay off it as much as possible first 2 weeks.
2. Maintain a healthy diet with no alcohol / tobacco use
3. Pick up a good calcium supplement with phosphorous (spelling?)
Don't rush your return to running, allow it time to heal or you will just re injure youself and be back to square 1.
Hope this helps.

dude, are you in the military? is that how you ended up on a carrier? 'cause if you are, and a doctor has told you that you have a stress fracture, that's the person you need to be talking to, not the guy who posted above me. sounds like you fractured your 2nd metatarsal. get off of it, at the very least get an orthopedic shoe, and get thee back to thy doctor.

Devine,
very simple. As Snow said, rest your foot, go back to your doctor and if necessary to see an orthopaedic surgeon. Together, you will then be able to initiate a proper period of rehab to get you back running at the proper time. Explain to them why you want to get back running. Do NOT try to run on a broken foot before you are ready or you will not be going to BUD/S.
Somebody needs to examine and treat you in person, not on the other side of keyboard.
