Hello Guys,

My name is Scott. I am 31 years old and have been police officer for the past ten years. I have never been in the military I just learned about SWCC and had a few questions:

1.) is the SWCC open to Naval Reservists? If so, what steps would I have to take to accomplish getting into SWCC?

2.) is it difficult getting an age waiver for the SWCC?

Thanks

1) Yes there are reserve SWCC detatchments. Talk to a reserve detailer.
2) Age waivers do happen. They happen alot faster if you kick the hell out of the PT test.

Here is the link for SWCC reserves:http://www.seal.navy.mil/swcc/reservistoverview.aspx

..:: Navy Reservist ::..

Navy SWCC Members of the Naval Reserve are now eligible to attend SWCC training and subsequently fill Special Boat Operator billets within the Naval Special Warfare Reserve. Reserves website: http://navyreserve.navy.mil

Procedure

Reserve candidates must meet the SWCC training eligibility criteria as delineated in MILPERSMAN 1220-340.

1. Conduct Physical Screening Test with SWCC Motivator and receive Report of Applicant Screening.

2. Obtain endorsement from the Commanding officer (CO) of the Reserve Unit with which you choose to affiliate (units are listed below). This can be accomplished by contacting the Operational Support Group (OSG) Career Counselor at (619) 522-3234. Through this endorsement unit CO will agree to ?sponsor? you as a candidate for SWCC training.

3. You will then be placed into a billet at your ?sponsoring? Unit and you will begin drilling with that unit. Drill periods will be dedicated to preparing physically and mentally for SWCC training.

4. Attend Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape (SERE) School on Annual Training (AT) orders.

5. Attend SWCC training on Active Duty for Training (ADT) orders.

6. Return to your sponsoring Unit as a qualified SWCC operator. Assignments Candidates can choose to affiliate with one of four Naval Special Warfare Reserve Units:

* Coastal Combatant Craft Operations and Training One-Coronado, CA
* Coastal Combatant Craft Operations and Training Two-Norfolk, VA
* Riverine Combatant Craft Operations and Training One-Sacramento-CA
* Riverine Combatant Craft Operations and Training Two-Stennis, MS

Hope you fellows didn't mind me posting, though it might help with the phone numbers...

To the best of my knowledge as of right now the only way you can be a SWCC (notice the spelling) officer is if you become a NSW officer by going to BUD'S...If i am wrong some one please correct me. I believe Kinnikinik has alot of information on this he can share with you since he is curently SWCC and in the process of becoming an officer.

I am just wondering though, in your personal opinion what do you think......
Do you think I should go seal then instead of swcc because I know that they have an officer program.......

Currently, if you want to lead SWCC operators as an officer you have to go through BUD/S and become a SEAL. The other way is to become a warrant officer through SWCC... that would be the slow way. I will not withhold my opinion that I think they should may SWCC officers, but until they do, you will need to go to BUD/S.

Still, with all the special duty pays you get as SWCC, you will be earning as much money as a Surface Warfare Officer with the same number of years in service. So it is not the money that is at issue. For me, the opportunity to lead the best in the world is what drives me to become an officer. For some, it is driving the boats and doing the cool-guy stuff. If you want that, go enlisted. You will have more opportunities to jump out of planes and shoot guns if you do it enlisted. Also, unique to SWCC, the enlisted do run the boat. They hold positions that anywhere else in the Navy would be held by officers. Think about it... getting an officer billet at BUD/S is incredibly competetive. Still, if you are up to it, it is truly a great opportunity.

I am no SB yet but i can answer that... Yes they do need to maintain a high Fitness level, it is important to reduce the amount of injuries due to the force that the boats put on you.

Simply, the only difference between SWCC and SEALs is their mission. SWCC works out just as much as SEALs, but we do have different focus when we work out. SWCC focuses on core training and exercises that strengthen the abs and the stabilization muscles around the spine and neck. We do this because SWCC has a high rate of stress related injuries due to the dynamic nature of the boats.

We have our own gyms and a dedicated PT staff to train you, plus our own medical and physical rehab in case you get injured. I have had training from off-season NFL trainers and other professional fitness experts.

I know SWCC guys who do boxing, martial arts, ultra-marathons, and triathlons. There is no shortage of opportunities to stay in shape in SWCC. As for comparing SWCC fitness to SEAL fitness, I simply say, bring it on.
