Hi Snow,

I think I may be a bit of a thicket, but do do you know the address of said Embassy? Might be a tad difficult to find and I may end up in several other bars just to make sure it's not the right one and in the interests of Brit/Yank relations, that wouldn't do.

Also, do you know Chicago at all? I need to find a decent hotel for early January.

"embassy", right? and not Embassy? ;)
here's the website:

actually, if you DID end up in several bars in your search to find Texas, (i can't speak for all yanks), but i'm sure that would be just fine with texans. in fact, that might go a long way in promoting relations: if you were already hammered and a lil' rowdy when you showed up. yes, i think that would do nicely.

i know chicago quite well. pm me, or email, if that option is working.

Hi Snow,

Am packing my bag for survival training - lugagge label (in case of Tequila); whistle (in case of ignorant bar-staff); hip flask (see previous); pork scratchings (see point 1) and sense of humour (see all poiints and by now, do you care?!).

I absolutely bl**dy hate (sorry for previous appalling language) Margheritas but I shall raise a glass to you despite the 8 hours time difference.

Thanks for the URL, it's no wonder i didn't know it was there as it's not an area known for it's bustling night-life, more the stuffed shirt variety! Although I do rather like the sound of "a lil' rowdy".

Thanks so much for all your responses, you've made me laugh and been a great help. I was a little nervous about logging onto a site I know little about although i am starting to understand that unity amongst SEAL teams and their families is sacrosanct and that the SEAL teams are family. I think it's important for (outsiders, even limeys) to read to understand the code of honour and integrity that everyone posts. It has been a true honour to read these stories and I have begun to understand why you count yourselves the best in the world.

PS - emailed ya!

you need to have a 'rita in texas or mexico. believe me when i tell you that they're simply not the same in other places. sort of like the mojito-- you can get great ones anywhere, but they're best in miami or cuba. you don't have to drink a rita for me. vodka will do just fine.

considering some of the folks who frequent the embassy, those stuffed shirts... only stay tucked in for so long. that's all i'm going to say about that.

chicago is a wonderful city, and you'll surely enjoy it. check the weather forecast when you go-- it should be snowy by then. you'll need the sense of humor at o'hare, and your runners. moving walkways help, and some of the decorations are distracting, but it's still a hike. plus, you'll have to go through customs. on the bright side, no real language barrier to overcome.

got the email-- i'll get back to you!
