Hello all. This is my first post here, but I was hoping someone could maybe help me out with a bit of information.
I am prior service Army. Served as an Airborne Ranger from 1993 to 1997. I am now 32 and looking to re-enlist. I have been thinking alot about EOD and would like a little bit of informations, please.
I am still in good shape (work out and run regularly) but I wouldn't call it "combat shape." In my Ranger Battalion days I used to run 2 miles in 11 flat and I'm definitely not near that right now--1.5 miles in 12:00 or so is probably more realistic. The pushups, pullups, situps, etc. aren't a concern for me, but I was wondering about the realities of the EOD pipeline.
If I was going to boot camp first, I would be fine, because I know that 8 weeks of running would get me where I need to be, but my recruiiter has informed me that--since I'm prior service Army--I'll just be doing three weeks at Great Lakes before being assigned to EOD school. My question is this: is there a "pre-EOD" phase (I believe BUD/S has a "Phase 4" or at least they used to) that helps people get inyto tiptop shape.
I understand that physical fitness is a priority for Special Operations, but right now I'm holding two jobs and finding the time to lift and run regularly (to the point that I'm satisfied with my own performance) is extraordinarily difficult.
Oh, and one other question: I have 101 college credits, so I was thinking OCS down the road. Is this a realistic possibility with the demands of EOD; training, deployment, etc.
Thanks in advance to everyone.
