Hello all. This is my first post here, but I was hoping someone could maybe help me out with a bit of information.

I am prior service Army. Served as an Airborne Ranger from 1993 to 1997. I am now 32 and looking to re-enlist. I have been thinking alot about EOD and would like a little bit of informations, please.

I am still in good shape (work out and run regularly) but I wouldn't call it "combat shape." In my Ranger Battalion days I used to run 2 miles in 11 flat and I'm definitely not near that right now--1.5 miles in 12:00 or so is probably more realistic. The pushups, pullups, situps, etc. aren't a concern for me, but I was wondering about the realities of the EOD pipeline.

If I was going to boot camp first, I would be fine, because I know that 8 weeks of running would get me where I need to be, but my recruiiter has informed me that--since I'm prior service Army--I'll just be doing three weeks at Great Lakes before being assigned to EOD school. My question is this: is there a "pre-EOD" phase (I believe BUD/S has a "Phase 4" or at least they used to) that helps people get inyto tiptop shape.

I understand that physical fitness is a priority for Special Operations, but right now I'm holding two jobs and finding the time to lift and run regularly (to the point that I'm satisfied with my own performance) is extraordinarily difficult.

Oh, and one other question: I have 101 college credits, so I was thinking OCS down the road. Is this a realistic possibility with the demands of EOD; training, deployment, etc.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

First, you'll need an age waiver. This should not be an issue, just letting you know. As far as the Pre-training, there is a phase up in Great Lakes, and I'm assuming you would go to it. Look at some of the other posts for the EOD Recruiter. He should be able to answer any of your questions.

When you were in the rangers did you see any combat?

We had a prior service Army in our class. He didn't end up making it through Eglin...I don't know where he's at now. The Great Lakes phase isn't really long enough to get you in shape. There is an EOD warning order that would give you all you need to know about getting in shape for school. If you were assigned to the 75th, then I'm sure you know about PT and all of that. Swim with fins if you can before starting the pipeline. I am 33 and run my 1.5 in about 9:30, but before I got here I was doing it in about 10 or so. I would definitely get that run time down. I was told that since I would have needed and age waiver I would have to do really well in the screen test. I guess I did well enough. I understand not having a lot of time, but it doesn't take more than 45 minutes to really get a good workout. Supersets, supersets...of pushups, pullups, situps. Run. Swim. That's really all you need. Good luck. I wish you the best. What was your MOS in the Army?

Oh,yeah..I think you're over the limit for OCS. I have 122 college credits and I'm too old. But, LDO or CWO is still possible down the road. WAY down the road for me.

I'm an active duty Navy recruiter, and starting recently, you are required to pass the PST for the Spec Ops program your trying for, before you get a contract for it. There should also be a motivator that can work with you to help you get better prepared. Don't expect boot camp to be what makes the difference, you should be prepared before that. I'm assuming you have a good RE-Code also, because you'll need a waiver for that as well. I work for NRD Los Angeles and maybe NRD San Franciso is different, but it should apply to them as well. Hope this helps.
