Hi I am 20 years old and am currently enrolled in college. I will hopefully be out of college in one and a half years and am curious about the seals. I was wandering how the process of joining works. If say I were to try out for it but not make it past "hell week," just saying if. Would I be enrolled in the navy or would I be sent back home to keep training?

Also would it matter that I am tall and skinny about 6'2" and probably around 150-160. I dont do as much with upper body exercises as I used to but I could get back into it. The one thing that I am good at is running, I can run a mile in roughly 5:00 +or- and my fastest mile was 4:45. Depends on the allergie season, carbs, and how many miles I ran the day before.

Sorry to ramble. I used to have asthma when I was a kid but I have grown out of it. The last time that I had an attack was when I was about 13 or 14 and when the ambulence got there they said that I might have had a little asthma but that I was mainly hyperventilating.

Finnaly I have glasses. Would I need to get corrective eye surgery before I went to a recruiter or would the navy take care of it?

Well you sign the SEAL Challenge contract, which basically gets you a slot at BUDs. Then you go to BOOT and A school I believe where you learn a basic trade. But yes, if you drop out of BUDs, or do not make it through the training for some reason, you go back into the fleet. But eventually you can try again, up to 3 times. Unless you want to go in as an officer, then you have to pass BUDs the first time.

As far as being 6'2" 150ish. You need to put on some muscle. Well I mean test yourself with the PST, and you should be able to meet the competitive requirements for that if you want to go.

And I thought you had to get corrective surgery for your eyes, but then I've heard that some people go through BUDs with glasses and it doesn't really matter. I think if you have worse then 20/100 vision you need to get corrective surgery.

As far as the glasses go, you have to have 20/200 or better in both eyes uncorrected. And according to the SEAL Challenge Requirments your eyes should be correctable to 20/20 in both.

About the asthma...
I am a SCUBA diver and when I got my dive physical they had to make sure of no asthma...like you said it doesnt happen any more but anything that goes wrong diving could either injure/prove fatal to you or could ruin your mission. I dont know how much skin diving a.k.a. snorkeling you will be doing but hyperventilation is a big part of it...so u might have to get a waiver...

To go into BUD/S the common though is you should atleast be in the competetive catagorey on your pst. Here is a link to the page where you can find the normal PST passing scores and the Competetive PST scores along with the SWCC and others...http://www.navyseals.com/physical-screening-tests

Also your running is great but remember SEALS also Swim :P For your training you might want to either go to http://www.crossfit.com/ Which is a very intense site with awesome workouts..awesome meaning hard :D...explore some there and you will either learn a bunch or get wrapped up in it...another good thing to try is Stew Smiths books.

Note i am not a SEAL and have no expeirence in the Navy.

Good luck! hope i heped
