My left knee when I sit too long will start throbing and become very stiff, however after I move it around a couple of times, the throbbing goes away. About 6 months ago I was racing a buddy of mine to the lunch hall (High school student here) after the bell rang, and while running I tripped up on somthing and banged my left knee real hard, it was bleeding and swollen. I don't know if that may have caused my knee pain. If any of yall could tell me about any remedies I'de be happy to hear them.

Thank You
-George

P.S. I won the race to the mess line

I read up some of the other posts and I think I have jumpers knee since that's where my knee hurts so laying off of the running, and I'm icing it now. Swimming and soon to be finning instead of the runs.

Hey buddy, thanks for asking since I was just about to try and look for more info as both my knees now are acking funny.

My right knee will start to hurt after sitting too long and when I get up it is very stiff but goes away after ahwile however Ive noticed now when I stand it hurts a little right above the knee cap (front side) about where the muscle attaches.

My left knee was allright untill 2 days ago when I was PTing I wanted to start doing handstand pushups and so I was on the floor on my knees and as I was kicking up my left leg to balance myself so I could put up my right leg and do some push ups like that, I felt a pain and it almost felt and heard like it moved forward so I straightened out my leg as I brought my left leg back to the ground. I had no clue wtf had happened and so I got on my back side and brought my knee up & as I was stretching my lower back pulled it towards me to try and see what was going on and felt the pain in the left lower center of my knee cap and so I straightened it back out. Now when I kneel down as if getting into a baseball catchers position once I reach a sertain point I feel that pain in my knee and straighten it back out.

I have not a clue what to do about this, curently I am iceing my knee's and not running or duing any leg exercises that invole my knees.

Thank You for any help on this, I greatly appretiate it.

gsxrgeorge-

go see a doctor.

in most overuse injuries the answers are pretty simple, but because you sustained trauma, you may need more than the usual RICE therapy (rest, ice, compression, elevation).

let us know how it goes.

sounds like you bumped your knee, probably eased up on it for a while while walking and such, (a natural reaction that you might not notice), and stressed the other one by putting more weight on it than usual.

also sounds like you might have a poorly tracking patella (or two)-- your kneecap slides around. that can be corrected with proper weightlifting to strengthen specific muscles in your quads.

as far as overuse? this doesn't sound like that at all.

when you fell, you probably bruised your patella, but if had fractured it, you have been crying, i promise.

the doc is up to your parents. if we went to a doctor every time we fell down, pediatrics would be the most popular branch of medicine for new graduates. it's not.

SWEET!, man I love you snow =)

Ah dude I was so scared that I messed up my knees bad. Thanks a bunch man =) and you are right about how I eased up on the left knee and then my right knee started acting up. I got a giant smile on my face now that I can keep on knowing that my knee's will be fine with some RICE and proper weight lifting.

Thanks allot for the info snow

One more question Snow, along with RICE, strenthening & stretching of the mucles, what can I do to about Chondrosis (which I read is a resault of the patellar tracking disorder that I will fix with time) since my right knee I think might have that since when siting for too long will start to hurt. Will the Chondrosis if any just go away as I work on strengthening the muscles and stretching them? Should I be taking glutamine for the joints & motrin until it's healed up?

Thank You

what i would do if i were you, is go see the athletic trainer at your school. that person may not look at you if you're not an athlete, but it's worth a shot. you're trying to self-diagnose, and it's not going to work b/c you don't have enough information to do that.

your knees could be bothering you for a million reasons-- one of which could be that you might still be growing. you're assuming that you have chondromalacia, but chances are good that you don't. you say that both of your knees hurt when you sit too long-- that doesn't really give enough information.

your trainer can tell you what kind of exercises to do, and can physically put their hands on you and determine if you need to see an ortho.

cool, thank you for the information Snow and the only thing my schools trainer is good for is wraping stuff however I think you might be right that it could be growing cause my left knee looked bigger for ahwile however my right knee looks almost as big now & my family and people I work with keep saying that I've gotten bigger but I feel the same and havent measured how tall I am for probably over a year now so as far as I'm concerned Im still 6'2''

Thanks allot for the help Snow, so far knee hasn't acted like it did since I've been resting it

gsxrgeorge,

Sort of off topic, but I'm curious if the "gsxr" in your screen name means the Suzuki variety? I ride Suzuki myself.

no problem, kiddo. if it keeps acting up, go see the trainer first. (it's free.) they know a lot more than you think they do.

Yep it does, I've always loved suzuki's cheapest bike and usually the best output. Dad and I ride Suzuki he's got a 1000 & I have a 750 both blue and white =D. I got a job & then my bike before I even had my learners =D. I'll try and start getting pics up of stuff as soon as I get my hands on a digital camera, have to try and borrow one from sombody.

Sweet. Currently I just ride an SV650. I commute on it, so I wanted something small and zippy. It's fantastic buying 3 gallons of gas every two weeks.

That awsome man I like how the SV's look, a naked and beautiful Suzuki =D, and I love the gas miliage myself with all the bogus gas prices nowadays I get about 30 to 40+ mpg depending on how I am on it.

The 650 gets 50 mpg every tank since I bought it. And after riding a fuel injected bike, its gonna have to be something spectacular for me to get anything carbureted.

Saw a GSXR ad the other day that I thought was clever...

"The R is for respect."

I love the sv650s moto. I have been riding it for a couple of years and it has seen many twisties and track days. The thing has over 33,000 miles with no problems at all. My knees to hurt after a whole day on the track though.

Let me start by saying that this article has been a huge motivator for me and I thank you all. I first started feeling pain in my left lower knee cap with a tingley sensation that would run down my shin. It all started when I was performing running buddy tows and I stepped in a hole during my dive prep course. I also diverted from running three miles a day to 7 miles twice a week which also contributed. The main irritator seems to be squats, cvp's and 8 counts and jumping jacks but not so much running. The doc told me I had shin splints and patella or whatever its called tendonitis. I never stopped the workouts once so over. Now my left mcl acts up.And my right mcl. I have always believed that and time will heal my wounds. My knee has only hurt for about a week and a half and the pain is very similiar to the way you described yours just more often. What is funny is my left leg and or knee is larger than my right which means I might be growing( I PRAY). I'm just going to keep up the ibprofen and the ice and stick it out.
