I was wondering what the actual purpose of the CSS is. From what I hear its for carrying stuff with you or towing, but do you carry guns as well with it? And if so are you cutting the arms out of the stroke?

creates a low profile in the water when done properly.

Okay I see. Do they carry equipment also while using the stroke?

damn right they do. they're not gonna do front crawl/freestyle with 100 lbs of gear.

That would look funny as hell, storming onto the beach swimming freestyle without their weapon readied

stealth and conservation of energy.

when done correctly, you use few strokes for lots of distance and the majority of time is spent sub-surface.

It's also supposed to make it easier to breathe in rough seas from what I've read.

this is true, using the correct breathing technique when exhaling while create an air bubble, so you can breath without taking in sea water in rough seas, which over time would lead to a serious lung infection
