Hello to everyone,

I know im english so cannot actually join the Seals. However i can apprichiate they are the highest standard in fitness, excellence, discipline and combat intelligence. So basically I feel that if i can achieve the goals required to pass the BUD training, i can consider myself among that standard of elite fitness (for those pureist im not saying i wil be as good as those in or passed buds, or also that if i was given the chance could pass the buds jus that it is a goal for someone wanting to achieve the best).

So furthermore I have identified my 2 Main problems the first is the pull ups (which i can achieve in time and i know this section is for running) and the second which, you guesses it, is running.

Im 5'4, around 87kgs (191 pounds) and have not been playing any sports in the previous few years so am fairly unfit, although i have been doing weightlifting for quite some time now.

The program i look to follow is the one from this site:

Basically my running question is My initial 2Mile time was 27.03.... i understand this is absolutly terrible but i wonder should i advance straight to week two's routine or stay on week one untill my running is at a set time, and if so what time do you guys recommend.

Hi, and welcome.

I too am doing that program, my best advice with the pullups would be just try to do them all, whether in a row or not. I'm in week 4 of Cat. 1 and in the first week I couldn't do 2 consecutive pullups, but I finished them all, and now I can do 4 in a row, nothing to get hung up about, but it's an accomplishment.

And as for the running, it says to do 8:30's so you should run the 2 miles in about 17 minutes, and the week 2 running is the exact same as the week 1.

I would say don't even concern yourself with the running times yet. If you say you are very unfit, then you should not be busting your *** to try to get 8:30 miles. What is most important when you start out running is called "base building" which means you need to build a proper base before you can expect yourself to be doing any speed work, which isn't saying that 8:30 miles is fast by any means, but for someone in your situation, it may seem fast. So what I would say is just run the X number of miles it tells you to run but do it so that when you're running you can carry on a conversation, which would be comparable to maybe a 130 bpm heart rate. Obviously you will go quite slow at first, but you need to build an endurance base so that when you get to the point where you're running 6 miles a day, you will be able to handle it. The speed will come eventually, you just have to put in the time to build your endurance first.

Also, if you're 5'4" and 191 lbs, you must be pretty f****** ripped. You could consider dropping some lbs. That would definitely help with your runs. I'm 6'0" 185 lbs. So I don't know, I would say drop like 20 or 30 lbs if you REALLY want to max out your run potential. And to quote Kevin Costner in The Guardian "muscle doesn't float".

Actually you can join the U.S. Navy SEALs if you are seriously interested. I'm not sure of the particulars but one of our instructors was Russian, one was from Holland and another from another foreign country. Meaning, they were not U.S. citizens until after getting most of the way through BUD/S. You'd have to contact the motivators office to determine the path to get into BUD/S though as I have no idea whats involved.

Asixe,

you may have just hit on a gold nugget of information. Are you sure they didnt have citizenship before going to BUD/S? Were they USN or "on loan" from an allied military?

Ive spoken to more recruiters and knocked on more doors trying to crack this nut than i care to mention.

As far as i was aware you HAVE to be a US citizen to go to BUD/S despite what security clearance you may have. If anybody knows differently, do post.
