In short, I would say no one pattern is as important as breaking up your shape while blending with your background - if your goal is concealment. Implementing those two criteria depend on your environment.
consistent uniform patterns among cooperating forces help in identification, however if obtained by the enemy they serve as a great deception. i think this might be why you're not getting an answer.
i started a broader topic on concealment:

In public, for the most part most of them are still wearing the woodland cammies. They havnt gone digital yet. (or maybe they are just keeping them for good wear :) )

The Navy still uses the old woodland BDU's for everyday utilities. However your more likely to see a frog wearing UDT's and a blue&gold while in the compound.

I've never seen a Frog wearing UDT's in a ST compound. All the guys from ST-4 that I knew always wore black running shorts and a brown t-shirt.

true, we mostly wear black shorts w/ tan or brown shirts....and a ball cap if you so desire. Boots or running shoes....whatever you want. Once you are out of BUD/S....nobody wears UDTs.

They try to "blend in" to whatever part of the world they're in so they don't stand out so much as being from the US.
Hopefully that answers your question.
