hi all...im 19 and i weigh about 185lbs. i can do 3 miles in about 22-25 minutes and i do that about 4-5 times a week. i have to go to Meps to retake my physical on the 26, once im there im going to to tell the job counselor that im interested in the navy seals. also im going to tell them that i want to ship out by february or april?
I need some motivation any advice will help me out alot. I feel a little down because last year i weight abut 145 and now im at 185 ( i was 200 but lost 15 lbs this month) i need motivation because everyone here talks about how they can run 10 miles in an hour and how they can do 600 push ups and sit ups. i feel like i cant compare myself or compete with that. am i screwed? One thing for sure is that im not giving up. my goal is to be a seal and on february or april ima start my first steps to get there. Anything would help guys. Thanks

Ive monitored your posts lately, and im not here to bash you, just offering some honest advice. DO NOT GOTO MEPS. Your so hung up on the PHYSICAL aspects (which from what ive read, are something you need to be concerned with) and not even taking into consideration that the pysical is only 10% of the game. i'd have to say that most of the guys that have gone through BUD/s and failed have been more then capable of the physical tasks. I feel like your rushing into something you know very little about because you like the way the end of the tunnel looks. The odds are against all of us. There are people on this board that are in better shape now then you would be if you went threw Stew Smiths 12 weeks to BUD/s twice. Take a realistic stance man. If this is something you want with every fiber of your being, take the steps necessary to ensure your success. If your here intimidated by what others can do and doubting your own abilities, you need to tell your recruiter your not enlisting for atleast a year.
p.s. Please start giving the program and the job the respect it deserves its SEAL not seal

When you say you can run 3 miles in "about 22-25" minutes, is that just an estimate, or do your run times really vary that much? If the first, then you need a more accurate way of measuring your time. If the second, then I think you might need to work on keeping a more steady pace. I generally run 5 miles, and my times are almost always within 20-30 seconds of each other.
Something to remember: when you're running in combat boots, in sand, or after you've just done hundreds of push-ups, sit-ups, etc., your times are going to get worse. The level of fitness required to be able to run 7.3 minute miles at home probably won't cut it at BUD/S.
Also, if you have to ask whether or not you're too fat for BUD/S, the answer's probably yes.
If I were you, I'd give myself a *lot* more time to get in shape.

Thank you for taking time to read and help me.....Sorry for not being clear about my time runs, when i first started i was doing 3 miles in 25 minutes but now im up to 22 minutes....tomorrow im gong to change my run, im going to try to do 6 miles in less than 40 minutes....also i think you guys are right about me not taking my time to work my body and mind up, im going to try to give myself until june to train myself....Can any one tell me if this is true, My recruiter told me that when i go to MEPS and i finish all the test and talk to the counselor that helps you pick your job my recruiter told me that if you tell the counselor that you are interested in SEAL that she will partner you up with real SEALS and they will work you out for the SEAL Physical Screening Test...IS THIS TRUE?? maybe one of you guys might now....what kind of diets should i be on??can any of you guys tell me what diets some of you might be on so that maybe i can start one myself, and what kind of foods?...Thanks and i really apreciate your help
You will get put with a SEAL motivator who will monitor your progress. IF (and thats a big IF) you get through MEPS without incident and pass the ASVAB with high enough scores, you will get the chance to take the SEAL pst with the motivator, fail this a few times and he'll straight up tell you that you should pick another job... if you show progress and fail a few times your cool, as long as you pass the last one, which is 10 days before you ship... I think its a good idea to take some time to get in shape, just like you i got the Navy SEAL bug up my *** and thought I could just leave the next day and be fine, then i started reading, watching the discovery channel BUD/s DVD and reading anything Navy SEAL related i could get my hands on... I think by posting here everyday theres something inside you that wants this pretty bad, I myself cannot stop thinking about it. Ive been training specifically for this for about 8 months and have about a month left before i ship. Ive never been over weight or out of shape, but since ive started this hardcore workout regimine i have a new understanding of what it takes physically to accomplish something as hardcore as BUD/s. Buy the book "The Warrior Elite" by **** Couch itll give you a little more insight to what actually goes on, opposed to the Discovery channel documentary. Take your time and push yourself past your limits, kill yourself in training and we may survive BUD/s

Thanks guys....rOz thanks ALOT.....I think your right im going to give myself some time to train myself. On the 26 when i got to Meps im going to tell the job counselor that im interested in SEALs, but that i want to train myself all the way to July or August so that i can be more ready for it. Hopefully the counselor will be nice and tell me ok and hopefully by that time a SEAL oppening should be around for me. I am currently following a Work-Out on this site. Im doing everything with no exeption. Im leaving the Swimming part of it until Feb. so that now i can concentrate more on the PT part of the Work-Out. After Feb. im going to start swimming and improve my self gradually unitil the date that my counselor gives me to ship out.
Im pushing myself every morning and night. Im sweating my self into a position that i want to be in. My motivation comes from the pain that ifeel after and when i work out. If i dont feel Weak or Pain then i must not be doing the work-out hard enough. Im pushing my self into becoming my own role model. That is my true motivation
From now to July or August Im to work my *** of to get where i want to be..............rOz your very close to your ship date. Can you explain to me your situation so that i can have a little more knowleadge, maybe im gonna go throught the same thing. When you went to Meps did you request SEAL from the Job Counselor? Or are you planning to try it out in Boot Camp? How does the whole process go from what you know? Exactly where a you shipping out to? a SEAL "Place or Boot Camp"? Are you going to Boot Camp or do you get sent automatically to a SEAL "place" if you apply for SEALs? Did you already take the SEAL Screnning Test? I dont know much about the whole process thing so any help i would really apreciate.
i went to the recuriter and told them i wanted a SEAL contract. I went to MEPS went through the 6 hour long process. At the end of said process you see a job placement counselor. That is wear they will assign you a "Job" in the Navy. As of about a year ago you had to goto "A School" which is where you get all your training for whatever job youve been assigned to in MEPS. Now with the Seamen to SEAL program your "job" is BUD/s. This is where the big 40K bonus comes from and all that jazz. The only things that will keep you from walking out of MEPS with a contract are your ASVAB scores or any physical problems that you either tell them or they will find... Your physical capabilites arent tested at MEPS. But i guess if your overweight they will deny you, i dunno.
As for my situation, i went to MEPS about 8 months ago, got a 89 total on my ASVAB and got through medical with a clean bill of health. I left that day with a hat and a SEAL Contract. I then quit my job and got a new one accross the street from my house with much less hours and much less pay. I TRAIN EVERYDAY. I am deathly afraid of getting hurt in BUD/s and in my opinion if i kill myself now it wont be much of a shock to my body. T-39 days and counting.

WOW man you almost there....Im not THAT overweight, its just that im a couple of pounds over of what i normally am. Ok let me get this straight.....on the 26 of this month i can request a SEAL contract and the time i wish to ship out? So i can tell them that i want to ship out on September so that i can have enought time to train my self? If the job counselor does approve me and gives me a SEAL contract for September, when will i take the SEAL Screnning Test? Right after Meps or a few weeks before September when i ship out?
Thanks alot man, your helping me out alot....i dont know much about this whole thing so almost everything that you tell me is new to me

Keep in mind, when you get the Seaman to SEAL contract you will be required to take a PST within 60 days of your DEP in date. So make sure your prepared for it. They'll give you a couple chances but if you fail to many times you will lose your contract.
Once your actually in the Navy everything will be much more clear. At MEPS you swear into the Navy, and then your actually allowed to pt with a motivator. As far as the PST you will take in DEP (Delayed Entry Program) its not very structured. You have to make the call to the motivator and meet up. this takes a lot of work on your part.

I have to take a PST 60 days after my DEP in date? What is DEP and since im going to sign up for September to ship out can you tell me when do you think ill take that Test that you are talking about? Is that the SEAL Screnning Test? When will i take the SEAL Screnning Test?
Thanks rOz your being so helpful...thanks alot man
I say you just train more then a couple months because those months arent gonna make that much of a differents you have to train for years to get even close to the SEAL point you have to be at
and because of your weight its gonna be hard for you to work on pull-ups
your gonna have to be about to do over 100's of pull ups and i mean 100's!!!!!!!!
and more then at least 1000's push ups in your sleep haha
and alot more nasty sit ups

" One thing for sure is that im not giving up" That said you're not too anything. Dont worry about people who can do hundreds of push-ups either, those people all started with 10, we all started somewhere you know. Good luck and God bless

Even though this is an old thread, I'm gonna say this. It won't take years to get into SEAL shape. It takes determination and a lot of intestinal fortitude to stick to a regular workout program. That is an obstacle in itself. Challenge yourself with the workout. If you don't feel like doing something one day, do it anyway. Think of it as a gutcheck before BUD/S to see if you got what it takes to stick with something like that. I lost 50lbs in 8 months(not including the muscle I gained from working out) Worked up from doing the minimal on the SEAL workout on this site to doing the maximum sets of running/swimming/pt'ing. Don't try to improve in one week though, it will take some time. Just stick with it bro......if you want it, you'll get it. F everyone else.

When I started working out after 2 years off about a year ago I could only do two sets of 15 pushups, 2 sets of about 20 situps if I was lucky, only run 3/4 of a mile and do about 2 sets of 2-3 pullups. Now I'm a heck of lot stronger and can run a heck of a lot longer and faster. Take it one workout at a time! That was the biggest thing for me.

your in the wrong frame of mind. if you keep telling yourself you dont have what it takes, you will fail yourself. alot of these guys here where in shape when they decided they wanted to be a SEAL, making it easier to reach the next level because they didnt start on the bottom. now cutting weight is pretty simple, you just run run run swim swim swim and keep pushing yourself. ideally you should have 2.5lbs of body weight for every inch of height. but your mind game needs to change, there are alot of cheesy phrases like "before you achieve you must believe", and this is true. dig deep and dont fail yourself.

Dude if your trying to loose weight eat more meals with proteins that carbs, carbs just slow you down in the long run. Also watch wat you are putting in the protein shakes cuz if ur mixing them with fruit and the protein mix, thats putting alot of calories into your body.
Best of luck!
Another tip is getting the book "Eat right for your type" its a book designed for your diet depending on ur blood type. This will most likely drop that weight that u need gone plus a little extra, but don't be too strick about the diet word for word

Fat? Size doesn't matter, I've watched some tubby guys kick butt in BUD/S and some monsters quit on day 1 of phase. Tell your recruiter you're not ready. Don't go to MEPS (you don't have to until you're ready to ship). If you're going to go to BUD/S you need to think about it and make a decision. It's not something you casually check out... not if you're serious about making it through. You're young, take the whole summer, train and read. Feel free to contact me privately for any questions. I'll give you brutally honest, no BS answers with any questions you have.
