Im trying to get as absolutely ready for this (as possible) and running and doing my workouts. No problems so far as far as running but im realizing that running in my nice Asics is going to be much diffferent. Im currently Active and can buy boots just wondering which i should be training in and i can pick them up at my local NEX??
Also I saw the website for the 922s but dont want to wait 6-8 weeks to get them im ready to incorporate boot running now!! Just curious if my NEX should carry these or if there is something close or "good enough" to pracitice in and get the feeling without killing me joints with flight deck boots. Thanx everyone..

Hey man! Everyone has different opinions on boots and shoes etc... I personally bought a pair of boots for myself earlier this year. From my ordering experience, I first went to the local NEX which did not carry the boots I was looking for (922's) So, I asked if I could have them ordered... Well, they said no and that they don't make special orders, but they did hand me a little brochure on the company they recommended for "special orders" However, I had no luck there either. After doing a little research online (basically shopping around for best price) I found a pair of 922's advertised on a site. I called the company up and was told by the sales clerk that the 922's had been replaced by the 924's... Not a big difference at all. In fact, the 924's had been fitted with a "better" sole. I've tried on a pair of 922's before and I own a pair of 924's... I can't tell any difference whatsoever. All I know is I love mine! I'm sure you can still get the 922's but I personally don't think it's going to make that big of a deal. Good luck with your boot buying. :)

Just a side note... This subject has been covered a lot in these forums. (like everything else) As for running/training in boots, some will say only do it once or twice a week... if that. Others feel that they have to train everyday just like they will in BUD/s and always wear their boots. In my opinion, I feel that in a "training" phase, leading up to BUD/s, you should try to avoid injury as much as possible. The more injuries you have, the more time you'll spend OUT of training. So, as for running in boots, if it hurts after a few runs... stop and try the shoes for a while. The boots won't provide you with the proper arch needed for comfortable, long term training purposes. To finish this up (I know I'm going off the subject) do what feels right. Wait to push through and suck up the pain for BUD/s. Be smart now so you might avoid the painful consequences of poor training when it really counts. Good luck to you on your SEAL quest.

I have 922's and got them from the same site you're talking about (www.getfitnow.com), and it said the same thing back in December when I ordered them, and it took less than 2 weeks to get to my house. They need to change that "6-8 Week" side note, but yeah, you can expect them less than 2 weeks.

Thanx guys i guess i will wait until i get back from deployment and just hit the NEX up for some 922s or 24s appreciate all the running tips and advice and since I just turned 27 i think i'll stick to your advice. Im not new to training have been pretty much my whole life off and on although this training is a bit diff since ive decided that i want NOTHING more than to be SEAL i think being smart not injuring myself during crucial training periods is the way to go. When are you going ROCKSTAR??

Glad you think that way! I'm a huge advocate of smart training/thinking. :)

Also, if you do get hurt, think about this... Our medical is absolutely 100% free! Take advantage of that leading up to BUD/s. Get everything checked out now! Expecially after you've completed your Dive physical. If you can catch a problem now, you'll save yourself a lot of heart ache (and physical pain) later! Why sit back and put yourself in jeopardy of making your dream come true. Leave the macho "ignore the pain" way of thinking for BUD/s. That's how I feel anyway...

When are you going ROCKSTAR??

June 2007. How about you? Let me know. Maybe we'll see each other there! Take care man!

Im there with ya (thought) on the medical and getting checked out. I agree i think at younger i used to throw caution to the wind and disregard my personal safety and although i still may have a tendency to do that now i think the reality of not being able to finish BUDS (my dream) while getting injured makes me a little more cautious.

June 18, 2007 first day of indoc. Woo Hoo! How about you? Let me know. Maybe we'll see each other there! Take care man!

About me, I dont have a date yet. Actually i've been planning on submitting my package at the end of this year in hopes of arriving the same time as you. My chain of command is all aware and waiting for me turn in the paperwork whenever i decide it's time. I'm still trying to improve my swimming though it's the weakest, I know you're thinking "and you want to be SEAL?" right well YES lol, I DO. It just my swimming is what i've practiced less in my life and now its just trying to find the time to get into the water. I'm confident though it will come along i just need more time and thats why i haven't submitted my package. This isn't a nrgotiable thing though so my answer to you is i VERY well could be arriving the same time as you since i've been told winter classes were canceled anyhow. I have a friend here also that's planning on going BACK also. Stay in touch!!!! Where are you stationed?

Not thinking that way at all... I think the swimming aspect for the overall BUD/s candidate is usually lower par compared to the normal running and calistenic side of the house. That's usually what I hear on these forums anyway. The only reason I say that is because not everyone is an avid swimmer and we aren't exactly fish... Not saying that there aren't people who are amazing swimmers. In fact, I believe I swim pretty good. However, when I started the combat stroke, I too had problems! I still consider the swim to be my weakest attribute as well. Not that it sucks... :) but I'm in the same boat.

Well hey, look up my profile for my email address. I'll definately keep intouch. It looks like you have an NMCI account so I'll shoot you a message as well. That way we don't turn this topic into a chat room... later man.

OK im back on the land now went to my NEX (in Japan) and can't find the 922s or 924s and one of the reps told me to use the "red" phone. So i picked it up which dialed directly to Va and they told me they discontinued carrying of these boots, so CRAPPY! I bought a pair of 918 that I will make work whatever ya know i reallly need to concentrate on my swimming more anyhow. Just couple questions out of curiosity.....Are the 922s a canvas upper?? The other bigger question i have is are the boots that they run in at BUDs steel toe. I know most of the weight comes from that so im just curious. Thanx,
B

Brent,

What's up man? Glad to hear you're off the boat! Did you get my message? Anyway, the boots still exist! I'm not sure where in VA the phone call went to, but they are still around. As for the two questions; The 922's AND 924's both have the same upper which is very much like the 918's and yes it is canvas around the ankle and up. As for the steel toe question... No. Fortunately, you will not use steel toe. The extra weight is useless as to you'll be using Combat boots and not "work saftey" boots. The 918's are steel however. I've had all three actually. My first pair being the 918's. I wasn't really educated in the SEAL boot world of things when I first purchased them. After I bought my second pair (924's) I realized what I had been missing all that time! SOoOo much lighter and comfortable!! You should be fine with the 18's though. They are very much similar to the 922's and 924's. Differences: They lack the little breathing/ drain holes on the inner side of the boot. The sole is a little different and the 918's have steel where the others do not. Long story short... I wouldn't worry about it one bit! Boots are boots when you aren't used to running in them period. You'll be fine with that purchase! How's the package coming? Did you get the dates I sent over? Fill me in man... So are you stationed over in 7th fleet? Take it easy...

If anyone is interested I've purchased a pair of Bates 922's off of ebay from Bargains Plus More for $60 (includes shipping). The boots are sold as blemished. I purchased a half size too large and email the seller and we arranged for me to send the large ones back in exchange for the correct size. I saw no visible blemishes. When I talked with the seller I asked why he could sell 922's for much less than I've seen on the internet. He mentioned something regarding Bates contract with the govt. dictates they sell 1st quality boots for a price no lower than what you can find on getfit.com. Check them out.

At the NEX look at the marines desert boots they are basically bates 922's with a marine corp ensigna stamped on them. I know thats lame but if you don't have many options thats what I'd go with. I run in Danner 8" strikers they're pretty sweet but I wouldn't recommend using them at BUD/s you don't want to destroy nice boots like those.

You can also get the 922s off eBay for around $60 and don't need to wait 6-8 weeks only a few days if you are state side.
