I really don't know if anyone here has done Navy EOD before. This seems like an interesting job/career with a lot of potential when you get out. I'm in between Recon or EOD. My Marine recruiter said that Navy EOD is a great group and are Special Ops. I've done some research and i find conflicting reports on if they are SO or not. It looks like they do a lot of sweet hing (SPIE, HALO, SCUBA, etc.) QAny input on capabilities and what it is like would be nice. Thanks a lot.

Sometimes people get Specops and Special Forces mixed up. There is a difference from what I can tell. EOD is Specops, not Special Forces.

Never being in EOD, I can't really tell you what it will be like... sorry.

What job that you get to blow stuff up in, scuba dive, and parachute isnt a good job? :)

And if you are in EOD, why not post some other stuff? There is not very many EOD people, we get most of our info through SEALs on this website.

Keep it real-

Yeah, I've been to those websites, I know how to search the web ( I mean I am in college, we have nothing better to do). It's just there's always those questions that aren't answered. I mean, that's purely why this site exists...

Alright well i talked to a senior chief out of virginia beach today about EOD. He has been in EOD for a little over 16 years and he said that it is the life of a rockstar. You start off with bootcamp then after bootcamp you stay in Illinois for 2 weeks to condition for dive school. after that you head down to panama city beach, FL for EOD dive school for 2 months. Then off the eglin air force base where you start with a cannon ball and move your way up to a nuclear weapon. this is 41 weeks and it is broken down into phases each beginning with class room excersises then to practical applications. After this you head out to san diego for tactical training, (CQT, Small group formations, Fast rope, etc.) Then to fort benning georgia where you learn static line jumping. He also said that while in san diego you would have the option to do HALO if you showed some initiative. After all of this you get put on one of the 6 teams and start your life as a member of EOD. He said that one of the perks is that you can switch between the teams pretty easy For example if you get tired of breaking down doors with the army then you can go hang out on an aircraft carrier and so on. Hope this helps.

EOD doesn't work for SOCOM (Special Operation Command). They fall under regular Navy. Some EOD techs have an opportunity to work with NSW. Great guys! Hope this helps -- Johan

I was told that EOD falls under the Naval Special Operations. What is the difference between Naval special operations and SOCOM? I was told that the SEAL's and SWCC are special warfare and EOD and Diver are under Special operations.

SOCOM is Special Operations COMmand. So there is no difference. What Johan is saying is that they fall under regular Navy not Spec Ops. I no for sure EOD is not Special Warfare (because chics aren't allowed in Special Warfare units, but they are allowed in EOD) but I thought it was under SOCOM.... hmmm... i guess my hearing is not what it used to be in my young age. Or people are feeding me lies. One or the other.

What is the dropout rate for Navy EOD?

Also, does every EOD guy in every branch (Air Force, Army and so on) get CQB, Fast Roping and all that cool **** too or is that just Navy?

Alright heres the run down 50% of people drop during EOD dive school and i have heard that another 50% drop during EOD school so out of the original classmates 25% will complete so i would have to say that there is a 75% attrition rate. I've been told that they do all that too. The difference between them and the navy is that we can do everything they can but we can also do it 100 feet underwater. seeing is that the world is 70% water i'd say we have the upper hand. Right? Hope this helps!

To answer a few questions...

Navy EOD does not fall under SpecWar or JSOC. There are Navy EOD's assigned to SpecWar/Special Forces units, though ;).

And to say what EOD's get to do is difficult.

Not every EOD receives the same training, and most aren't even aware of the different classified programs that other EOD's are involved in. If you don't need to know, then you probably don't.

Almost every INTERESTING aspect of EOD is classified, which is why there isn't a lot of info available.

If you do get into the program, you can be anything from a logistical office turd to a shooter on DEVGRU. It depends on how talented/motivated you are, and somewhat on how lucky you are as to what schools or assignments you get.

Sorry to be so general and vague, but if you want to know more about the program, you just gotta go through it.

Hooyah!

That answered alot of my questions. but i have a general question that i think you can answer. What are some things that one can do to be successful in the EOD Community? More so how would you get to do all of the really cool **** and not be a "logistical office turd"? thanks

This applies for everything in life. Put out, give 100% and donīt be a TURD! You just need to be motivated.-- Johan

Don't get me wrong, there are some EOD techs that I trust my life with. There are some great EOD techs that work with NSW. Just because they don't work directly for NSW doesn't mean that they aren't "cool" Have fun, don't SUCK! -- Johan

Spec Ops or Spec WAR, who cares.. It takes a huge set of balls to walk up to an IED and defuse it. A insurgent could just be watching you and waiting for you to walk up to it and boom. EOD techs should always get tons of respect. "Initial Success or Total Failure".. their motto says it all.
