Several years ago I tore up my left knee. I completely tore my ACL and cartilage. I don't have full range of motion and I have a screw 2-3 inches below my knee. But I don't have any trouble with sports or running.
I'm 16, and interested in SEALs. I've talked to recruiters and basically each one has told me a different answer. Does anyone know if my condition is disqualifying? If so, could I get a medical waiver? I appreciate any feedback.
Guitarfooter, you may want to consult with the thread that sits a few places below your own, titled “ACL surgery, No go for BUD/S?” You will find most of what you are looking for there, as I had questioned the same thing. However, why is it that you do not have full range of motion? Have you completed rehab?

I tore up my knee when I was 12. One word, SKATEBOARDING. ( I don't do it anymore) Both ACL and cartilage completely torn. I have a donor ACL, and repaired cartilage. I went though rehab for a year, and wasn't getting much progress. Plus, for that year, I was going to rehab for 5 days a week. So then I got another surgery to try and clear out the scar tissue. After that surgery, I went to around another year of rehab. More progress then before, but not great. After this I just stopped going, and my motion is around 120 degrees or so. I don't know why I couldn't rehab it back to good. Maybe it was the fact that I was young, didn't care, and couldn't take the pain. But don't get me wrong, I'm very athletic. I play football, wrestle, water ski, and weight lift and run. Its a problem that I have so far been able to work with.
Its been my dream since was a kid to become a SEAL. And I need to find a way to join, possibly a medical wavier. If it's not possible at all, could I successfully apply to other units like, Combat controllers, Rangers, etc. ?
