I usually take a power-bar or some trail mix, a pack of tuna once in awhile. It just depends on what you like as long as its "healthy" and not a bag of chips or doughnuts. Do you eat lunch or bring a lunch to school?

thank you! finally somebody replies. :P
i usually eat a subway sandwich that they have at school. its the healthiest thing they have. sometimes i'll go off-campus and eat at a chinese restaurant but usually i just stay on. i would rather not eat power bars because those things are really expensive plus then i would have to drink a lot of water with it. that brings up another thing. should i buy water instead of powerade during lunch? or should i bring water? what do you guys do? also what kind of snack bars could i eat(besides protein bars)? are granola bars good? i like that trail mix idea.
any more help/advice would be appreciated. thanx. :)
good ol' fashion apple, banana, grapes ^^

we ALL carried fruit and dry cereal and all sorts of other food around with us in high school. did it in college, and still do it today. when i was in high school, one athete friend of mine would bring two lunches-- one for 1st period, and one for lunch period. the trick is to bring things that aren't messy-- cut up an apple, avoid oranges, stuff like that. powerbars aren't good unless you're really working out enough to need them. chances of you doing that in college are slim, not to mention high school. unless you're doing straight, serious cardio for more than 90 minutes, don't waste your money. even then, you'd only need a couple ounces of a supplement, and those are for quick energy anyway. a power bar is going to take much longer to digest. you would be better to put those calories elsewhere.

Yeah I carried fruit around in my bag or hand depending on what it was, everywhere I went in high school and my first year of college.
Another thing to consider... almonds... it may just be me, but almonds rock. They curb hunger, get in some protein and good fatty acids. Yum. Any nuts really do the trick, but almonds rock out peanuts and cashews for being good for you.

Trader Joe's (here in CA, maybe in other places) has Almond Butter. Like peanut butter but a lot better (but it only comes in unsalted). They also have Cashew Butter and Pumpkin Butter. They're both okay.

Fruit is the best for you if you are hungry. Subway is okay for you, but you could probably do better if you brought your lunch. I know it isn't cool, but if really boils down to health v/ cool. Almond butter is good b/c it has different nutrients than the PB. Health food stores usually carry fresh ground nut butters which wouldn't have the added salt, fat, or preservatives. Spreading those on apples, pear, even crackers, is a good way to increase the life of your food. The more protein the better saitiy the snack will have. You can make a trail mix w/ whatever you like. Nuts (all kinds) seeds, such as sunflower, soynuts, dried fruit, and can even throw in some M&M's if you like. The nus will give you protein, while the dried fruit will give you a jump start w/ some carbs. Some of the "powerbars" aren't too expensive. I personally like the smaller ones that are more of a snack than a meal (like those c/ 35g of Protein). Larabars, and Cliff bars are two of my favorites for a healthy, natural, snack between meals.

I love Clifbars too. Clifbar also makes a Mojo Bar that is more like trailmix stuck together into a bar... salty but yet sweet at the same time. It's amazing. (And like 99% organic if you're into that stuff)

Shouldn't we be watching our sugar intake? I don't know how much sugar is supposed to be ingested throughout the day, but it's supposed to be as little as possible, right? I mean, aren't all those energy bars packed full of sugar? I know just one serving of dried fruit is like 20g of sugar.

Heh... didn't realize I said that... Silly me. But I'm sure if they read this post they would catch that one REALLY quickly.
