View Full Version : Upper Back/Rib Pain during Situps

Sorry if this has been asked before, I scouted around and found some similar incidents but nothing quite like mine;

About 2 weeks ago I was doing my regular sit-up routine on week 8 or so of Stew Smith's workout; so doing 6 sets of 30 situps, and I was on my 3rd or 4th set when I got an intense pain in my upper back on my left side, just below my shoulder blade. And now almost 3 weeks later, I'm still unable to do more than a few sets of sit-ups without the pain. I can also feel it when I cough hard or sneeze.

I've been doing reverse situps to replace standard ones, although slightly more since it seems to take more to feel the burn.

Basically, I was just wondering if I should see a doctor/trainer about this, or continue letting my back heal on it's own. Also any insight as to what could have caused this (bad form perhaps?) would be helpful.

Thanks,
Marek

If it's been three weeks, I would see a doctor, because if you're still working out, it doesn't sound like you're doing too much to let it heal on it's own.

Alright, thanks for your advice. It seems like it's been hurting less lately, so I'll let it go another week before I see a doctor about it.

Thanks again,
Marek
