Hey everyone,
Just wondering if there are any other guys who are preparing or in-progress of persuing their dreams of becoming a SWCC member? As of now I im finishing my second year of college and have one more semester to go. Im currently in progress of the Navy Seal: warning order workout, along with swimming on my off days. Hopefully their are some guys out there to exchange some tips or keep eachother motivated. Goodluck guys!
P.S.- Any advice on running? I've just started running and month and a half ago and I havent noticed any big gains on lowering my time. Im pretty sure thats normal since I've never ran more than 2 miles straight in my life before a month ago, anyways is weight training for my lower body safe along with running?

Your not the only person out there trying to go SWCC. I am currently in the Navy and working on my package (paperwork and stuff) to go to SWCC. Unfortunately I have a few medical situations that may limit my performance (according to doctors). I was diagnosed with testicular cancer, in 2003 and lost both my testicles (1 strike). I also had surgery on my lungs to remove tumors from the cancer, whcih resulted in them removing 2 small pieces of my lungs (strike 2). I also volunteered myself for DAPA (Drug and Alcohol program in the Navy). I was real depressed during the whole cancer issue, and started drinking alot. I dont drink anymore, just needed a little counseling on the whole "I had cancer and Im going to die and cry like a baby thing." According to the DMo (Dive medical Officer), the fact that I have no testicles and have had surgery on my lungs, the Navy isnt going to want to take the chance of me getting hurt in training. I am still trying to go. I compete in triathlons, alomng with running and bike races. I dont feel that my surgeries limit me in anyway possible. Anyways, enough of me.
How far do you run right now? Are you familiar with the requirments to go to SWCC (physical). When I run, I notice that I personally dont see much improvement until I stop runnning for a few days, and let me muscles heal and rest. But now that I run time events on a regular basis I see improvement. What Im getting at, it just because you dont see, or feel the improvment doesnt mean its not there. Do you continually time yourself, or just push yourself?
Good Luck!!

First off,
An apology to everyone on the forums here. I haven't been keeping up on the posts and I apologize for it. I will kick it into gear in a day or two and start answering the posts I have neglected.
Now... running. The only way to run faster is to run fast. If you are running long and slow you are training to run long and slow. Mix up your training with long runs and short ones. Throw in some sprints. 20 100 meter sprints can substitute for a long run one day and you can pick up a nice easy jog the next to get the lactic acid out. Mix it up. Running can get boring if you do the same thing all time.
There is a good discussion of running and injury prevention here in these forums. Scroll to the bottom for the best info.

Hey guys,
I didn't read all of this forum, but you were talking about running. Most of the running that will be done in BCT in in soft sand. which if you have never done it, it is alot harder. also you will run in boots. wet boots at that. so get used to it.
K,
I start monday, so i will be down for the count for a few months. i will check in with you guys when i can.
good luck, God Bless

Businda,
You will still have weekends to yourself. Life does not stop when you start SWCC school. Have faith and keep your head up. There is an internet cafe on the SWCC side of the base. Get a card and keep in touch with us. And good luck. Remember that all evolutions have an end, and if you keep saying "I'll quit after the next berm" eventually there will be no berms left to quit on.
Good luck Bus! Don't quit on me.
Snap and Kill!
Get some!
Make these your rallying cries for the next few months. When you feel yourself or the rest of the group dragging ***, screaming like a mad man about killing seems to give everyone a second wind.
Too many tips for one post. What was I thinking!?

Thanks for all the information guys I really appreciate it. I've notice some improvements on my running, I ran 3 miles in 23min yesterday, 2 months ago I dont even think I could've ran 3 miles at all. Now im one of those guys who did a lot of upper-body weight training but never really focused on lower-body. I took one day off running to do some weight training on my lower body and I was completely sore the next day. Im talking about that feeling after the first time you've ever worked out. Do you guys think I should take some time off running and get in some weight training for my lower back and legs? Or should I mix it in with running as welll?
brbusinda, Regjoe- Goodluck guys!
Kinnikinik-As always thanks for the great information.

K,
Thanks for the tips. we start indoc in monday. but they have changed alot of stuff in the course. they are pushing 6 BCT classes a year and 3 CQT. But they also told use the course has bee AMPED up a bit.
Aboutr leg training, there is alot of stuff you can do to train you body with out wieghts. i was a huge lifter through high school and college, but i had to totally change my thought process. i still hit the wieghts, but its more for fun than training. everything i have had to do thus far is about endurence not strength. thats with everything, not just running and swimming. try and do squats with 50 / 4 count for set of ten. you will not move the next day. i have done lunges for over a mile. anyways SWIMMING is key for SWCC. that is a huge part of BCT. hope this helps good luck.
God Bless
