Well for awhile now I was thinking about becoming a SEAL but after looking up more info on SWCC and reading some of the posts here I've really had a change of heart. Tomorrow I'm going to talk to my recruiter and see if I can get the SWCC Challenge Program so when I go to bootcamp in Oct. I can do my pst for SWCC! And I have a question. I've been working out trying to get fit for BUDs should I be doing anything different in order for the training to become SWCC. Also what is the training called? Thanks!

Welcome to the fold!

I think that if more people knew about SWCC you would find alot more people interested in the program. SEALs has a very widespread advertisement network, and sometimes SWCC gets drowned out in the white noise. I think you made a good choice. Follow through with it!

As for training, stick to what you are doing. You will probably do fewer pull ups in SWCC and more swimming, so you may want to shift your workouts that way, but for the most part, what you do to prepare for BUD/S is the same deal that you do to qualify for SWCC.

The school is called SWCC School. There is no real fancy naming conventions. It is just the school for Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen. Prepare for the ride of your life. It will challenge the hell out of you, but if you prevail you will have earned something that very few people can ever say they have had the guts to even attempt. Good luck, and please keep us posted on your progress on this board. The more stories we can collect, the better informed the next group of SWCC hopefuls will be.

Hooyah! Future boat guy! May the wind always find your sails!

Well today I have to take a PT test with my recruiter and I will talk to him about the SWCC contract. The only problem is that it says you need a MC score of 50 and I scored a 42 :( , so I'm not really sure if I can get a waiver for that, hopefully I can, if not I'll just have to take the asvab over again. And I pray to God that I WON'T have to go through MEPS again!!!!!!

Oh and another thing. Do you think it would be wise to just take the asvab over again to make sure I get the contract or should I go to bootcamp without it and still try out for it and hopefully I'll get in if they need people?

Retake the asvab. If you can get in without waivers it is a very good thing. Waivers aren't terrible, but life is much easier without them.

Alright so I just got back and I got some bad news. First off he said I CAN'T take the ASVAB over again because I've already graduated????(Is that true?) And the other thing is I can't get the contract because of my vision!

DAMMIT!

<P>You can legally take the ASVAB once every 6 months... even after joining the service. (Note to you guys who are in the Navy now and want to get higher ASVAB scores, you are eligible too). In fact, print this out and show it to him. </P>
<P><A href="http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/i130412E_092005/i130412Ep.pdf">http://www.dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/i130412E_092005/i130412Ep.pdf</A></P>
<P>Take a look at section 3.1.7. You may take the test after one month from you intitial test and once every six months thereafter.</P>
<P>In addition he may sign you up under an ASVAB waiver, expect to retake the test, and you had better study and get your scores up. There are plenty of resources out there. Print this out, read it, and give it to your recruiter.</P>
<P><A href="http://www.seal.navy.mil/swcc/pdf/asvab.pdf">http://www.seal.navy.mil/swcc/pdf/asvab.pdf</A></P>
<P>As for your vision, if you are colorblind, or even partially colorblind you may have a hard time, but take the test anyway, you may get lucky and pass it. SEALs does not accept colorblindness waivers, only SWCC.&nbsp; Here is the waiver application just in case: <A href="http://www.seal.navy.mil/swcc/pdf/eyeswaiver.pdf">http://www.seal.navy.mil/swcc/pdf/eyeswaiver.pdf</A></P>
<P>If your problem is glasses or contacts, here is the scoop on that for SWCC: Vision must correct to 20/25 with corrective lenses. Uncorrected vision can be no worse than 20/200 in each eye.</P>
<P>Unless you are blind you fall into this category. If not, go get PRK surgery. Only PRK surgery is legal for SWCC, but if you want it enough, go for it.</P>
<P>Also, head over to <A href="http://www.seal.navy.mil/swcc/">http://www.seal.navy.mil/swcc/</A>&nbsp;. This site has everything you need to know about getting into the program. I want you in the Navy and your recruiter wants you in the Navy, but remember this is a life choice. Make your recruiter work for it. Hell, print out this post and give it to him. He can email me here at <A href="mailto:kinnikinik@navyseals.com">kinnikinik@navyseals.com</A> if he needs some help with the instructions.</P>
<P>One more thing, don't go in all ****y and say, "Look what I heard on the internet!" Your goal is to educate him on what you want to do, not piss him off. Recruiting is a difficult job and he may not know all the ins and outs of SWCC yet. Your job is to CYOA... cover your own ***. Do it respectfully though.</P>
<P>Tell me how it goes.</P>

Well I'm not colorblind but my vison is pretty bad. With contacts I know I'm 20/25 or even 20/20, but without them I'm not really sure if it's 20/200 or not. Tomorrow I'll go find out and I'll also bring the printouts that you provided me with. Thanks a lot K, I really do apperciate it! I'll also keep you updated on my situation.
