Sup K, last time we talked I was an IT heading to the TAMS in VA. I'm there now and it's really not bad. I would have liked a ship, but in hindsight I wanted a smallboy and all I had offered to me were carriers at the time. So, I'm not minding the choice. I'm knocking out my quals as fast as possible and I've been working pretty hard, however, VA is kind of **** ty. I had a quesiton though ... this isn't really related to SWCC so please move it if you need to. I had a feeling you might have an idea about this though, because you are so knowlegable.
I'm really interested in field comms and am wondering how I go about getting involved in it later on. Would I be best off asking for a SeaBee batallion? I was also told that I'd be able to get stationed on an LCC and I'd be able to do it there for when those things hit the beach. I was just wondering if that's all that's available to me...I'm really interested in some sort of field comms, but really have no idea how to get involved. thanks ahead of time.

You have a few options. All of these should be evaluated and talked through with your Command Career Counselor. Let him (and your chief and even CMC) know what you want early so they can keep an eye out for everything.
1. Mobile Comm Team. You wear cammies and set up communications in combat zones. Not directly associate with Specwar... but not too far off either.
2. Support for SEAL/Boat Teams. Each Team has an Comms shack that is manned with regular sailors. It is usually pretty competetive to get into, but it is worth it. In addition, foreward operating units such as in Bahrain need IT support as well. It is not uncommon for support personnel to be flown out to set up communications in Kuwait or Iraq, or wherever they need it.
3. Naval Infantry. They are just standing this up in Little Creek. They will need support and will be trained to do a bunch of cool guy stuff. Downside? You'll probably end up guarding Abu Ghraib or Guantanamo Bay.
4. If you qualify for a TS+ clearance there are positions available at NSA. They have their own sort of Mobile Comm team.
5. LCAC- Not a bad deal at all. Those things can haul ***!
Many of these jobs may not show up on BUPERS. Talk to your CCC and your CMC and if that doesn't work, call up the units and ask them how you can get with them.
You can go SEABEE as well, and that is a very good option. SEABEE battalions are very tight, have alot of fun, and get stationed in some really cool places.
Up to you, but I will help you any way I can with this stuff.

I remember hearing about them kicking that Naval Infantry thing into gear a while back. I've been looking for info about it, but haven't found much. Is it going to pretty much be like ASF and then some? That's kind of how I've taken everything I've heard about it. Do you happen to know much about it?
