no. run when you want. just make sure you take at least one full day off per week.

if you arent already a runner start off with 3 days then gradually work up to 5 days a week. you can start off with 5 days in a row but you will most likely get overuse injuries like shin splints. i started running again about 2 months ago and i am finally back up to 5 days a week. its smart to start off with 2 miles m-w-f.

I concur with MTG. I would say a 14 mile run once a week, maybe. Thats putting alot of stress on your body. You have to push hard, but remember pushing to hard can sometimes do more harm than good. Everyone's body is different. So each individual has to find what works for them. Yes, you have to push yourself. Get outside your comfort zone and gut it out, but keep it within reason. Training smart is just as important as training hard.
Kenny is also right about weight training your legs. Weight training not only helps build strength and endurance, but also helps increase bone density. Don't forget to work those hamstrings and calves. Alot of people have a tendancy to over look them. Remember, every part of your body has a purpose and a function. Any muscle thats weak. Can and will effect your over all performance. There is always room for improvment.

so whats the most mile you can run in 5 days, i got like 2 or 3 years to train and i was thinking of taking slow and working up to somehting big in endurance. I read in one forum that to run atleast 35 or 40miles a week, and whats the most mile can you do a week.

Everyone's body is different. Some can handle more than others. Its my opinion if you try to run 14 miles a day. Your probably going to have alot of problems, especially with your knees. Your body just can't recover from that kind of day in and day out abuse. But thats just my opinion. I would suggest either buying stock in a company that manufactures Ibuprofen or start sleeping with a hot little orthopedic surgeon. Cause your going to need all the help you can get. LOL
You said you have 2 or 3 years. You got plenty of time. Relax a bit.

I have to agree with this totally. If you push to hard you can loose you daily momentum waiting long periods to recover.

When i was training for a my first marathon, I ran tues, wed, thurs, sat, sun(cross train). Tuesday and thursday were easy like 4-6 miles, Wednesday was a 7-9 mile run, and saturday was a longer run usually from 10-15 average some where much longer. I found this worked better for me than running 6miles mon-fri, even though that was more weekly milage sometimes. This gave me 3 days break from running with enough time to recover. My body felt less stressed than running 5 days in a row, and I became a better runner. I ran Wed, and Sat much slower than the easier runs, but it made shorter distances like 4-6 miles feel like nothing. Just remember to give yourself enough rest.
Also this is coming from a high school kid and i'm not a running expert, just a little sugestion for you. Hope it helps.

I did the same thing when training for a half marathon. I would run around 5 miles on Tues. and Thurs. Then Sat. I would do between 8-11, and Sunday do a slow 2-3 mile to loosen up. Strausse is right, it doesn't seem so hard on the body when you get some days off in there. (I'm still a pretty suck job runner, but at least I finished the half marathon I was going for.)

It seems like hes joking.
I really hope he is when he says he swims 500 meters in 11:45 but runs 1.5 miles in the mid 6's?

1.5 miles in mid 6 minute isn't quite impossible, but that would who ever ran that is a world class runner. Seriously. I ran in college, if you do the math, then that person should be able to run a SUB 4 minute mile, which we all know isn't impossible, the wold record is 3:23 held by Hicham Elgarur ( spelling if off) from Moroco.
I would sugest to anyone just startig out running to make a plan from week to week. Here's what I would have you do if I was your coach
week 1: MONDAY 2 miles TUESDAYS: 1/2 mile warm up/ stretch 1/2 cool down. WENSDAY: off THURSDAY 1/2 mile warm up/ stretch/ 1/2 mile cool down. FRIDAY. 2 miles SATURDAY: off SUNDAY: 2miles
I would have you repeat this same thing the 2nd week and judging by how your body reacts we would build onto this or take away some. Some of the others that posted on here had a good ideas as well. I would also go to a local running shop ex: Johns Run/Walk shop, The Running Spot.. These places have expeirenced runners who could tell you about local running clubs you could get involved with. They will be full of advice about running. The best way to learn about running is from experienced runner.
