I was wondering if anyone knew any good diets that dont involve starving yourself of "normal human" food. I've been trying to eat 3-5 times a day. 3 meals 2 snacks. I've started drinking lots of propel fitness water. I eat meats, salads, breads, rice, and the once a week fast food. Is this okay. i dont want anything to hard core just something that keeps me off the cokes and fast foods. thanx

My uncle retired as a Lt. Cmdr. in the Navy and his "Navy Man" diet pretty much consisted of strong coffee, cigarettes, and beer.

Back to the topic...try cutting out as much sugar as possibly (that means no sodas, juices, and Propel) since the human body actually burns sugar before it even begins burning fat. If your craving sugar it's actually one way the mind is trying to tell you it is lacking the proper fuel for the moment. Although sugar could act as a perfect substitute since it gives you that quick rush, unfortunately, the body does not store it as it would glycogen thus you'll burn it out before you even get a real good chance of using it.

But if you are going to eat some sweets (and I'm talking about the sugar not a blonde or a brunette) don't eat it on an empty stomache since taste-buds are more sensitive when your hungry than on a pretty full stomache, thus sugar will taste sweeter.

The only thing you should cut out other than sugar is saturated fat. Other than that consume more complex carbohydrates and fiber in the morning and more protein (go for some sort of animal protein) at night. Think about it...in the morning your body needs the extra energy for the day and at night your body needs the extra protein to help aid in the muscle recovery for when you sleep. And the amount of protein you need really isn't as much as you'd think. I once read a book on nutrition and was suprised by the fact that if one consumes more protein than their actually needs it will actually slow you down. The average person needs 32.5% of their body weight and a triathloner needs only 65% of their body weight (a body builder needs only 70% of their body weight, a misconception to the one gram per one pound of bodyweight I learned when I began). I can't really tell you what you need or put you on a program cause I'm not you; just listen to your body and see what gives you the best results. Email me at mattyc0001@yahoo.com if you have any more questions.

Forgot one more point: don't eat anthing that says low-fat, no-fat, sugar-free, etc...the fact that the product lacks that ingredient means that it will add some sort of other artificial sweetner, like splenda. Splenda is even worse than sugar since it has been linked to slowing down the nervous system of the human body. You slow down the nervous system then you slow down the metabolism as well. You'd be better off having the real thing with all the saturated fat and sugar than some sort of artificial variation.

Matthew -- please recalculate this. This would mean that a 200 pound man would need to eat 65 pounds of protein a day. Than cannot possibly be correct.

The proper ratio of protein intake for building and maintaining muscle mass is a gram to a gram and a quater per pound.

Good info. Thanks. I've been eating Sugar-free Strawberry Jam for a long time and only now noticed the "Sweetened with Splenda". Crap! But I do eat the low-fat stuff, I don't know why maybe I'm a sucker. As for my diet, I eat all day but my biggest meal is breakfast and then my meals gradually get smaller throughout the day. Fruit is a good filler-upper. I also eat granola bars (lowfat) but I assume thats probably bad with all the sugar. Other than that make sure you drink LOTS of water. Helps the metabolism. I also take Flaxseeds but I don't know if that does anything (supposed to be a dietary supplement). Never mind, my diet is all jacked up. Don't listen to me. Water and fruit fill me up throughout the day.
