I just wanted to say that I tried the 500 yd CSS. My SS time was 11:00, my CSS time was 10:50, but it seemed like i was much more tired. Not to mention, i dont thing u get goggles for the PST, so if u do CSS you be pretty much blind for 500 yrds. Now my technique is probably bad, but i watched that little Stew Smith DVD lol, and i was careful to do the enire thing correctly. Basically what I'm saying is 10 seconds isnt worth the additional fatigue. However i think it would help for passing people underwater if u had to, seeing as how som1 said there are like 8 ppl per lane. Ok, comment if u like, maybe one of you can tell me something that u learned about CSS that made you faster. God bless!

Here's the thing, CSS is faster once you learn the technique, it's common sense. You don't have as much resistance on the waters surface when you kick to push yourself forward when your underwater, plus when your doing regular ss your body is at an angle in the water like this /, well more angled out straight, but just to give you an idea. So the water is causing resistance the whole time, but when you go under for the css your body is flat like this ------- and your right under the water line. It's really hard to explain with words, but that's the basics. You definitely want to learn the css and be able to do it well because once you get in to BUD/s you'll be doing it a lot, and I don't even think they allow regular SS in BUD/s, my friend always did it that way and they told him to learn in one day and he better come back knowing how to do it on monday, haha.

Bro, I've pretty much resolved just to do breaststroke for the actual PST. With 8 ppl/lane it's not like I'm going to be setting any personal records and I already know that I can do 500 yd Breaststroke in under 11 mins. But knowing the CSS is still crucial so I still practice it all the time.
