OK I did a little research on the site and I found the answer to my question (I know I am stupid for not looking first sorry). I have never really "worked out" before (like I am now preparing for BUD/s) so I am still new too it that's why most of you probably got pissed after reading the previous post LOL.

Now, I do have another question after answering my first. Would you recommend taking protein supplements period (I have a very balanced diet and not sure if I really need them)? I don't know much about this kind of stuff but I would think that if you stopped taking supplements before shipping off to the Navy your body would still need the previous amount of protein (i.e. supplement) what would happen to your strength/endurance? Can someone set me straight because I know that I have A LOT to learn? In the mean time with the little spare time I have I will be reading up as much as I can. I am really eager to learn as much as I can so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The "right" protein supplement all depends on your goals. I personally have always considered animal protein (mostly chicken and egg whites) as the best source, since I don't really like to consume too much of any artificial ingredient (and there are a lot of added ingredients in most protein powders).

I try to eat mostly "animal protein" over supplements but sometimes when I am short on time I will eat a power bar or mix up a protein shake just to get enough protein for the day. I think the best source is tuna one can is around 32g of protein(I eat 2 cans a day along with other foods high in protein).

Protein shakes/bars are best when you can't exactly whip up a piece of grilled chicken during the middle of the work day. I don't have time to precook all my food the night before, so that's out. And canned tuna gets old real fast.

True but you haft to get it some way. I have switched it with crab(real stuff not the pressed *****) but that is even worse.

That's exactly why I drink the shakes.

Hey Derrek, if you have done your research, then you should have uncovered organic hemp protien. Just check it out, it is good stuff! And with the tuna, good idea, BUT make sure you don't eat too much tuna at one time, your body needs time to adjust.

-Good luck,

Since someone decided to revive this OLD tread... Tuna has mercury. Too much can cause heavy metal poisoning.
