Gents,

I'm trying to master this swimming portion and it's really dragging me down. Other than that I'm pretty squared away so I need to fix this deficiency of mine.

So my problem is no matter how I seem to rotate to breathe a significant amount of water goes in my nose, enough to screw up my stroke. I don't understand it. I rotate my whole body to breathe as my lower arm pulls but no matter how I try to position my head nothing seems to help. One thing I don't do is exhale through my nose and mouth... I just can't do it. I've tried on numerous occassions but all I can do is one or the other, not both at the same time... sounds kinda funny huh...lol. Has anyone else had this problem? I would appreciate any advice... thanks.

Chris

-Thanks for the reply, I'm swimming the CSS. I don't think I lift my head when I breath and try to be very conscience of my body positiion... rotating the entire body to breath when the bottom arm pulls. Video analysis might be helpful, because you can think you're doing everything right until you see yourself... I'll have to check into that

chris-- what stroke are you swimming? free?

try keeping your head in the water. the forward motion of your body should create a trough, and that's where your face goes when you breath. you don't take your head out of the water. if you focus on that, it might correct whatever is causing you to get water in your nose. i still am not able to pinpoint what that is from what you wrote.

if you're going to exhale through only your nose or mouth, exhale through your mouth. make sure you're exhaling the entire time your face is underwater, i.e. don't really hold your breath. inhale, exhaaale, inhale, exhaaale.... if you're exhaling when you turn your head, you can't inhale through your nose.

try that.
