Hey,
I am planing on going to school in PA and going through Navy ROTC and going into navy intell. I have always thought it would be great to be a SEAL. so I was looking on the Req page. I match most of the Reqs for officer and have been working out all the reqs except eye sight, which has to be 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other. Im something like 20/200 according to my eye doctor. I can correct it to 20/20 with gl *** es but does it have to be with out gl *** es? Also i was wondering if it is possable to do that, or if its possable that i could get my eyes corrected through lazer optics?

I share your problem. I know it can be corrected by laser surgery, though I think the technology is currently in it's early stages of development. Fortunately, i'm young, so by the time i'll be old enough to join any special forces the technology should be fairly advanced. Unfortunately, i'm also color-blind, though i'm hoping it may be possible to correct one day as well (though I doubt it).

Well i am sure that they can correct eye sight my father has had it done and has 20/20 now. Color blindness is far off but i guess you can always hope for the best if your determined enough you can do alot. Even though your color blind you can still join the army rangers. I belive they don't have a a restriction on that, not sure though.

The waiver for eyesight is 20/200, but after that you are placed on a list of priority for RKP (radiokerotonomy procedure). You should be able to get the procedure done before you begin the pipeline schools.
If the SEALs won't take you and you really want to be a Spec war stud badly enough try this:
1- Request (I mean DEMAND) SEAL challange contract in RTC + BOOST program
2- Choose Corpsman A school = (Basic Life Support + Nursing Skills + EMT Skills)
3- On dream sheet, select "Fleet Marine Force"
4- During Field Medicall Service School- Take FMF Recon screening
5- When you get to Recon, submit BUDS chit
- Recon will get you all your pipeline schools;
-Dive school = Dive Pay
-Airborne School = Jump Pay
-Amphib Recon School (like BUDs)
-18D Medical course= National Paramedic Credentials
-SERE school
+ $3,000 sign on bonus
- Upon completion of Pipeline schools all you need is BUDs and chances of making it are better.
You'll pick up E-4 or E-5 and get paid at that level while you finish your officer training.
You also get better respect as a mustang (prior enlisted) It's round about way but it's no worse than trying to get into the teams right out of college. It'll cost you three years, but it will pay off in a big way. How do I know?
I've earned my alias.
