I have been doing athletics that invole running since i was in 6th ( 11th grade now ) grade and i have always been one of the fastest at short distances but recently i have got into cross country and have been told that i run flat footed and that it will effect me in the long distance races. If i could have some insite from those who have experience on how to correct my running or if it even matters that would be great thanks

mcar22--
i wouldn't worry about it. has this made you some craptastic runner? clearly not, so why do you think it will impact your running negatively just because you've changed the distance?
there are two kinds of 'flat feet.' one is the rigid kind and the other is the flexible kind. ask your athletic trainer which kind of feet you have.
if you've been fine since 6th grade, DO NOT change your form without talking to your trainer. you could hurt yourself. since you're.... 17ish, orthotics may not do you much good, but if you think it's a problem and you want to correct it, that's always an option.

Are you saying your arch is flat footed, or on your striding pattern you land flat? I run cross country as well and I know the people who stride that way have a difficult time competing. By striding pattern I mean you land on your heels first when you strike. On interval training you shouldn't be pounding the ground with your feet, you should be on the tips of yourtoes. Im just curious, are you flat footed or is it the way you strike with your feet?
