I submitted my DAR package a month and a half ago.
I submitted a DAR package which, from what I told by my recruiter, will let me leave for bootcamp earlier. I had to do my PST, learn the Sailor's Creed, Memorize the 11 General Orders and Boat Terms, Safety, etc, just to put the package in.
So I've had nothing to do everyday except work out, swim, and hang out with friends that are still in High School or went to a college in Nashville by me. On top of that my g/f moved to Colorado Springs because her dad got a promotion... so I'm not getting any action.
To make a long strory short, I am bored off my ***!
If any of yall know how long a DAR package would generally take for a swcc candidate lemme know.
Dep date: November 29th
Leave date: June16th

You have to excuse me, but it has been a while since I went through the process. What does the acronym DAR stand for? Is it a request to enter the Navy sooner? Honestly I am not sure how long that would take to process. Did you ask your recruiter?
Good luck with the boredom. Keep us updated on what you are going through.

Ah I figured it all out.
DAR = Dep Action Request
My request was to leave earlier.
So I went ahead and did all the things required to go to boot camp before I really needed to do them.
Now if someone who is going for swcc or engineman as a source rate (in my case) gets hurt or dq'd before leaving for boot, I get their spot. I thought I would just get a call tellin me to get my *** in gear I would be leaving in a few days.

Then again, most people who are going for SWCC are hard chargers... good luck waiting for one to quit, but don't hold your breath.

someone will quit, someone always does.
just keep working out, and keep focused-----you'll get there eventually.

like half the class if not more will get dropped or quit. Watch out for water safety, it will get ya!

Is that the drop rate in boot camp? I thought it was much lower.

Water safety? All I have to do is not drown right? :)
Im good in the water I did swim team through middle school for about 4 years.
I can do my mile and a half in 9:30. I'm kind of worried about the swim before the actual push-ups, sit-up, pull-ups, THEN run but I think I'll make it through.
I got a speeding ticket last night my recruiter is gonna be pissed... ah well.

All SWCC swims are done in full uniform(boots and cammies) you also have to tow an instructor 30 meters with their head above water. They are supposed to be acting dead but they have a few tricks up there sleeve to try and get you to fail. You shouldn't be worried about the bootcamp screen test, you should smoke it. If you have any doubts you better train harder,

That sounds fun. I can't wait to meet some of the instructrs.
No, I will smoke the screen test but that doesn't mean that i should have to look forward to any part of it though.
Either way I'm excited.
Thanks for the replys

A DAR package could take anywhere from 4-8 weeks for a response depending on the amount of requests they have to go through. In that response it should state when your new report date for basic should be.
Also remember that your request can be denied, in which case your report date does not change.
You will then report to your "A" school directly after basic, then onto SWCC school......
Good luck to you dude!

And either way, your DEP date comes quick. Trust me, it will be here before you know it. Keep working out and keep your nose clean.
I am not going to preach to anyone here about doing drugs in the civilian world (not referring to the original poster, just putting out info), but if you want to be in the Navy, don't do drugs. This is not an issue of whether or not drug laws are good, or if you think you can get away with it, or the arguement, "Whats the big deal?"
Simply, the Navy has a no tolerance policy on drugs. If you are caught once, you are out, and not just that, but you are blacklisted from getting a government job again. If you think you can get by, don't even think about it. Random drug tests are very common, and if they suspect you of anything your name WILL pop up. Cover-up teas, pills, niacin, sweating, won't make a bit of difference. I have seen too many good sailors get kicked out because of this, and it is not worth it.
I am just on this kick because a very promising junior sailor I know just popped positive on a piss test for marijuana. He was one of the best people in his command (NOT a Special Boat Team), but he is pulling weeds outside the compound because he lost his security clearance, half a month's pay for two months, was reduced in rate back down to Seaman Apprentice, and is outprocessing with the Navy now.
Just don't do it. Special Warfare and the Navy are some of the best opportunities in the world. Don't mess that up just for one night. I still get old friends offering me drugs if I go home to visit (I had a rowdy past before the Navy), but you simply tell them that if you pop, you can't go in the Navy. Trust me, they will understand, and most of them will respect you because you have some direction in your life.
Don't forget about guilt by association either, if you are busted with them, even if you didn't do anything, you might as well write home and tell mom to get your room ready for you to move back in.
Anyway, sorry for stealing this thread. I'm just a little ticked to see this guy go (but see ya!), and I hope that his story will help someone else out there decide that they want to move forward in life.
Thanks for listening,
K

Kinnikinik -- this would make a great sticky. Can you cut and paste and post it in its own thread, please? I think putting it in BUD/S Getting There would hit the most readers.

Nah, no drugs for me... Tried weed but thats it.
It isn't any good for me. It makes me feel really dumb and besides that I don't talk. All I do is eat food.
Anyway, good topic and yes it would make a good post in itself.

Thanks by the way.
If I have Internet access throughout my training I will be sure to update all of you in this thread...
It should provide a few answers to some of the questions related to things after yall went through the camp.
Also kinnik, thanks for your responses also.
I went to a dep meeting last night and my recruiter said there is still no luck on an open swcc spot or EN. I call him every now and then to see if he checked with MEPS on an open spot. Gotta keep on his *** or he'll forget ;). He also said a few months ago that I should be in by February. If I do find out that I will be shipped out before the end of the month I will be sure to update yall.
much love,

Please do, I don't expect to get much of a response while you are in boot camp, the internet time is very limited there. Spend it talking to your friends and family. Give us a full report when you get out, and keep us updated on your path to SWCC.
Make a post: Steven's Road to SWCC or something like that and keep it updated. If you keep on top of it I will sticky it to the top of this forum so everyone can see it. Tell us the good, the bad, and a few tips and tricks to getting through stuff. Talk about how it feels to be away from home. Basically, anything you experience will help others as they follow in your footsteps.
Good luck again. Suggestion, if they ask for volunteers for Ship's Staff, volunteer. You will be happy I suggested it during your crank week.
I look forward to seeing you in the Boat Teams.
Much love back to you,
K
