I decided it would be interesting to hear what people generally eat throughout the day. One of my New Years resolutions was, and is to eat healthier. Ive never had weight issues but with how active I've become lately, training for BUD/s , my food intake has increased dramatically.

I'm sure alot of people here are like me and eat 5-6 times a day. I think if everyone posts what they like to eat for nutrition, and why they eat it, we can learn alot. So I guess I'll share what I usually eat and hopefully alot of people will reply.

Breakfeast:
Usually something from my school cafeteria and a bottle of water. I'll usually grab a cinnamon roll or whatever I can get my hands on. I've always hated breakfeast food and its hard for me to find something nutritional to eat. I also have to wait to eat until after I run that morning. So either I have to pack my breakfeast or buy crappy food from the cafeteria. In the past I've brought alot of bagels because they are a good source of carbohydrates. This is the weakest part of my diet.

Lunch: I will usually eat pure chicken of some kind. My school has a "chicken snack line". They have chicken strips, nuggets, popcorn chicken, sandwiches, etc. I usually go for the thing with the least amount of starches, which is chicken strips. I find if I eat lots of bread for lunch I get tired. Protein is important for my muscles. I'll usually also have a bottle of water and a powerade.

At Home/ Dinner:
When I get home I usually eat alot of whole grain PB sandwiches. Maybe about 2 or 3. I'll do that about twice in one afternoon. Peanut butter is a good source of protein and the bread has fibers and such. I dont eat white bread, cause its crap. Also before I go to bed I'll usually eat a ham sandwich.
When My mom cooks its usually healthy food so I just eat it and don't complain. My mom is obese and she is also on a diet so this helps me with my routine.

Snacks: I usually eat fruits and vegetables. I prefer eating carrots and some sort of light weight dip with it. Vegetables are good carbohydrates and its not all starchy. I really think starches cause my day to become sluggish. I could either get carbs from bread or veggies. I would chose veggies. When I eat candy or sweets I usually limit to 2-3 times a week and in very conservative amounts.
I also usually eat a burger about once a week. Overall, depending on where you buy your burgers, I think they have a lot of nutritional value. Although, If you ate a burger every day you might have a problem.

Maybe it seems like alot of food, but I run, swim, and lift weights everyday. I'm burning so many calories I am practically hungry 24/7.

Hopefully my food diet has a value to you, tell me what you think and post your ideas.

What I do is basically follow the food guide pyramid. I stay away from fast foods and school foods. A typical day for me is:

Breakfast: - Bowl of Cheerios with Bannana, bowl of fruit, piece of toast, hard boiled egg, juice, multi-vitamin and joint supplement.

Lunch: -Sandwich on whole wheat bread, apple, carrots, celery, raisins, water

Dinner: -Whatever my mom makes, which is usually always healthy, a joint supplement and dessert

Snacks: - I have a protein bar at 11:00 and an energy bar before I swim. I also try to drink 64 oz. of water a day.

I made a nutrion log, and once I complete the recommended servings of the pyramid, i cross it off the list for the day.
On the weekends I dont really watch my diet.

Why do you take joint supplements?

Because of all the working out it puts alot of stress on my joints. I read a post where Sandfrog said that one of the things he did to prevent injury at BUD/S was take joint supplements, so I figured I'd give it a try to avoid further injury to my joints, and the supplements help my joints recover from the strenous workouts.

Do they work well because sometimes my knees hurt from running

They helped me.

If your knees hurt from running, most of the time it means your form is improper. The main cause for knee pains in your running form is from landing with your feet pointed outward. Make sure that when your feet strike, your feet are pointed straight ahead, not out to the side. If you are running on pavement, it is also hard on your knees. But, if you think of landing on your midfoot, not your heel and making your running form proper and smooth, the hard pavement shouldn't be an issue.
Don't think of picking up your knees when you are doing long distance runs, of course they might naturally lift, but think of extending your stride back rather than picking your knees up.
Another cause is overtraining. Don't start your running program off to fast. If your body is used to running 2 miles three times a week, don't start a program running 6 miles everyday.

If you focus on your form and take the joint supplements, I can guarantee no more knee pain. Somebody on here mentioned the book Chirunning. I got the book for christmas, and it has done wonders. I already knew what perfect running form was, but I am a sprinter, and sprinting form is different than long distance form. His revoluitionary techniqe to effortless injury free running really does work. I was running my 4 miles at 7:45 pace. After thanksgiving, sadly went to 8:30. My first run after reading to book I ran two miles in 12:04. I was amazed. I can now run 4 miles at about a 6:15- 6:45 pace.

Hope this helped,
Charles

You can get a lot of protein from steak and ham, but you can also die of heart disease when you eat it everyday (tons of fat and cholesterol). And I'm a little confused as to how pork has more "power" than chicken. What are you talking about dude?

My meals

Pre-Breakfast/After Run: Protein shake w/ banana and flax oil

Breakfast: Oatmeal w/ sugar free jelly/jam, 5 eggwhites and 1 eggyolk cooked with olive oil and herbs

Pre-Lunch: Usually 1-2 peanut butter and honey sandwiches (for those of you who haven't ever had that...it is the best pb&anything sandwich)

Lunch: 8 oz chicken breast cooked w/ olive oil and herbs, whatever green veggies I can get my hands on, 1 cup brown/wild rice

Dinner: I try to eat an 8oz steak, but sometimes I have to eat chicken again, more veggies, and more rice

Before bed: Protein shake w/ banana and flax oil

usually around 3300 kcals a day w/ about 250-300 g protein and alot of carbs with the bread and rice...but they are much needed carbs

Sometimes I eat oatmeal with dinner...and give myself a break from the rice all the time

If you are trying to put on some good lean muscle, lose weight, or just help your metabolism, this is a great eating plan.

This sounds awesome and Im interested to try it but I think it may be too many calories for me.

I'm 5'7" and 155 lbs. I have some excess body fat around my abs that I'm trying to get rid of but still maintain proper nutrition. I ship off to Boot in 5 months and am trying to up my stats for the PST so I have started the 12 week to BUD/S program by Stew Smith.

Right now I try to just eat whatever we have around the house but to be honest, I'm probably not getting all the servings I need of everything.

My day usually consists of:

Breakfast: Protein Shake w/ "Naked" juice. and a multivitamin.

Snack: Whatever veggie was leftover the night before.

Lunch: Some 99% fat free chicken chili.. 2 servings in a can and 17g of protein in 1 serving.

Snack: Some crackers.. something light...

Dinner: Some meat.. probably chicken or steak, veggies, and some potatoes.

Before Bed: Protein Shake w/ Banana.

I try to stay around 2000-2500 calories. I know I probably get over 90 grams of protein in a day. I would predict around 120-130.. but I feel my eating schedule is too eratic and needs to be more set into stone.

I need help, guys. My eating habits are a nightmare.

Breakfast -
Drool off my pillow. I usually sleep until 1300 because I'm up all night swimming or running. In fact, I don't remember when I last woke up and had "breakfast".

Lunch -
Sometimes a turkey sandwitch or PB&J. Usually go to the gym for weight training around 1800 (or later, depending if I'm working that day) and have a protein shake after I'm done. Then back for swimming and running into the next morning.

Dinner -
I don't normally eat a "dinner" until around 0100. The worst part is I'll eat something and go to bed right after. I think my biggest problem is I've got no hard schedule in place. I train everyday and am making good progress, but I know I'll progress much faster with a steady diet.

I feel like I need an extreme makeover in the kitchen. With my work schedule I'd have to wake up at around 0600 to eat breakfast but I stay up past 0300 training. I'm at work for lunch and usually eat what Chef makes me (which is always gormet food, I work at a rich person's retirement community). Then I'm off at 2200 and head to the gym. Should I start wearing a fanny pack full of snacks to eat at work? How many of you guys wake up early everyday to eat breakfast? I know what foods to and to not eat, it's just eating them that's my problem.

Advice?

Charles

Hey guys, I'm new to the WOD and am excited to take my fitness to the next level. Anyway, here's what I eat M-F (weekends aren't the greatest)

Pre-workout (4:30) 1/4 cup almonds 1/4 cup raisins

Breakfast: 1/2" cup egg beaters with piece of toast

Snack: 1/4" cup egg beaters with 1/3 cup of oatmeal

Lunch: chicken breast (sometimes lunch meat - too much sodium I know), carrots, dried plums

Snack: Same as first snack except with almonds and raisins

Dinner: Something the wife makes, usually pretty healthy (chicken and rice with vegetables - something like that)

Snack: 1 serving of whey protein drink with 1 cup of skim milk

I think my total cal per day are low (1700 or so), but I've lost fat and put on muscle mass. I think I now need to add a few more cal to my day. Any thoughts? I've been doing the WOD (not quite at level of most of you guys) so I'm pretty active with my fitness.

By the way, I'm 38 - hopefully not too old stay in the GAME!

Ok guys here it is, my 180* for eating right.

Woke up this morning at 7:30, ran 2 miles. Came home, made some eggs and had a apple with orange juice. Later, had to go to work, so I had a PB&J and another apple. At work I had lunch, grilled fish with rice and salad. Then came home for another snack, protein bar and apple, with some water. Then took a nap and went to the gym. After I had another protein bar, protein drink and some more water. Now I'm waiting to have another PB&J, then dinner, then swim!

I've drank something like 80oz. of water today. This isn't so horrible after all!
