So I need a good motivation to start and stick with running. Also any sugjestions on gettting started, it treadmill? Long walks? Any and all ideas apreciated. I am trying to change my thinking on exercise, but its slow going. :D

if you don't like running, have you tried swimming? If so that would be a great place to start with building a state of fitness. You can start with jogs. If thats too much start with "power walking" Get out there and do 30min runs each day. Start a proper nutrition and lower your calorie intake. Bringing down your wieght will be a big part in getting into a running shape.

The walking, I can handle and like. Where I work, the halls are 1000 feet long and I am over them many times a days. And I like hiking in the woods for hours on end, just been hard to make the pace pick up. I also have modified the food in take, more veggys, less sugar/fats, but it seems the metabolism is taking a nose dive.

Make sure your getting the proper amount of complex carbs. Do not throw three big meals a day at your system. If you want to increase your metabolic rate. Eat several meals 300 to 400 calories a meal. This will help increase your metabolism. Your body will begin to burn more fat and sustain a steady level of energy through out the day.

Think of it like your metabolism is a fire and the food you eat is the wood for that fire. IF you through several small peices of wood onto the fire. Two things happen. First, the fire will begin to burn hotter. Then, the peices of wood begin to burn up. The small peices of wood will burn alot quicker than say throwing a big smoldering log on that same fire. You want meals that your body can break down and burnoff alot quicker.

Lean out your diet. Watch your refined sugars and saturated fats. A good balanced diet is the key to the performance of your body. Pick up a few health magazines. They'll have alot of great knowledge that can help. Knowledge is the key. Learn your body. What it needs and what you need from your body. Then take charge with a plan of action. Show some self discipline and do what you have to do. Good luck!

The main thing about exercise is finding something you enjoy. If you hate it, you're not going to stick to it. If you like walking, go on a walk (at a good pace) for about 45 minutes four times a week. Once you get to where the walks are no sweat, try to throw a little jogging into it. If you like hiking, then hike. Just find something you like to do that's active and stick with it. Oh yeah, and take Burner's advice on the diet.

Thanks for the input, I have a location now, that is perfect for the walking, the total trail length is 3.2 miles for one loop through, it has sever up and down areas of rock similar if you were to go hiking in the hills or low mountain areas. As to the lite meals, that will take a little doing, as I have morning, noon and evening times, at work, it is more difficult to get a short break for a lite meal. But, I will give it a try. Maintaining 270 now for 3 weeks, with no increases, more veggys and salads.

more veggys and salads.

Just watch the dressings and toppings! Just because it's called a salad doesn't necessarily mean it's healthy! (A co-worker got a salad at a fast food joint recently only to find out that it had 63 fat grams!) Good luck and stick to it.

Yeah at McD's and all i look at the back of that dressy package and saw that too. I use a little bit of fat free dressing.

My idea of a salad, is leaf lettus, romain, bib, and lots of spinich and on occation, grape tomatoes and thin sliced red onion. The dressing is raspberry vinigret lite. A big bowl files me up, with 3 tablespoons dressing, calories about 70 for it, and 30 for the salad. The veggys, steamed or baked or stirfried in olive oil. The walking is picking up at work, now just to get to walk at the park. For the weekends only at the moment. Dark when I leave for work, and sun setting when I leave work. :(
