Hey-

I was talking to the recruiter yesterday, because apparently he has been trying to get a hold of me because I requested info like 2 months ago. He asked me what I wanted to go into, and when I said EOD he seemed very surprised.
He also didn't really have any information about it for me. (This guy also told me women could be in SWCC) So, I was wondering if there were any EOD people out there on this site that could tell me more about it.
There doesn't seem to be very much information regarding EOD out there. *sad face* Any information would be appreciated.

EOD is a great program and opens the door for a lot of other opportunities down the line.

I've worked/deployed with quite a few EOD guys and have a lot of respect for the one's I've met, not simply because of the job, but because they're a great group of people. The community seems to really take care of their own as well, nice to know your command has your back when you're overseas.

If it's something you're interested in I'd highly reccommend going for it, they do a lot more cool stuff than most people realize.

Thanks Sandfrog, I've actually been interested in going into the Navy since I was 9, and (well to be honest first I wanted to be a SEAL, but I know that can't happen and I'm not one to be upset about it) EOD just seems like the place`I should be.

Just wondering if you knew anything about it, but I heard about them using dolphins to tag mines... I don't suppose you or anyone else would know anything about that?

Thanks

EOD does have the marimne mammals program. Most EOD people don't want to do it. (divers work with them too) They rather blow stuff up. The marine mammals program is the best job that I ever had. But it isn't for everyone. There is a ton of great things to do in EOD. Good luck.

Thanks for the insight. As much fun as blowing stuff up is, I dunno, I'd rather work with the marine mammals. This might be brought about by the fact that I am getting my undergrad in Marine Biology. Even though my interests wane more to sharks than dolphins. Thanks again for your input.

I was just trying to let you know how many in EOD feel about working the marine mammal systems. For me it was the best job that I ever had. Some people go into it with a touchy feely tree hugger attitude. They do not make good handlers. The animals are an asset to be used. They demand a lot of your time. You as well as the animal need to have the right temperment. If you make it into the marine mammals program someday I would advise forgetting your (book learning). On the job training with experienced handlers and interacting with the animals will get you where you need to be. I have seen it in my experience with others. We even had a vet that ended up with egg on her face trying to spout off about things. The wheel doesn't and won't be re-invented. Again it was a great job, but remember it is the military and they have a job to do. You won't be dissapointed going EOD. Good luck.

eod is like a bomb squad on roids, I met one that owns a restauraunt near me, he told me that when he came back from iraq (he is now a reservist) about destroying munitions sounded like an adrenaline rush from god.
Good luck.

Navy EOD will be permanantly closed off to women very soon. The ones that are currently in the program are only allowed to take part in 50% of the missions anyway, so while they will be able to keep their crabs (badges) until they get out/retire when the new rule takes effect...no more female accessions will be allowed to attend EOD school.

I know this is an old thread, but I just want to let you and anyone else that women aren't allowed to attend SWCC school. If you don't agree, please don't msg me, send a letter to your local congressmen (or congresswomen) stating why you think women should be allowed in SOF. -- Johan

Where are you getting your info from??? If you are a Navy EOD Tech. Check your facts! If you're not...Don't talk about something you know nothing about!

Johndoes54 has no clue what he is talking about. A Female Tech at MU2 just got a Bronze star.
They are not allowed on NSW/SF dets due to DA missions they take on, among many other things i'm sure. But they are out there doing the job and doing it well. My CMC has never heard anything about Women not being allowed anymore, and i'm pretty sure he has his finger on the pulse of the EOD community. Johndoes54 also has no profile... so... whatever. If your a tech, PM me and tell me where you got your info, if your not, then STFD and STFU.

Don't worry I know this I was just stating my recruiter didn't know what he was talking about. And I'm not one of those girls who is always complaining about not being in special forces. Although that guy talking about womaen not being allowed in EOD kinda scared me there until everyone said he was talking bullsh*t.

On a different note, your profile is so blank... do you prefer to be mysterious??

How can you get into the Marine Mammal Program, to like train them and keep them healthy and such, do you have to go EOD then convert?

I really don't know, I would have to call the guy I met on base here. I think its something you volunteer for though, kind of like working with drug and bomb dogs. But I'll see if I can dig some stuff up.

Now that this is like a bazookamillion years later... Here we go:

Naval EOD marine mammal progam participants train and maintain the marine mammals. I.E. they train them in how to mark mines, they also make sure they stay healthy. Kind of like the bomb/drug/ anything else dogs the military uses, except more wet. Hope this helps, sorry its not more clear. I don't think anyone outside of those who actually do it really knows.

I'm not even in yet. I'm actually in college still. Next year I graduate, so after then hopefully. But its alright because then I can work on my running ( I still fail). So yeah, I ship sometime in the distant near future. :) Probably when I get sick of Hawaii.
