Yeah, also 133 grams of fat. There are lots of better ways to get 65 grams of protein! Besides, who would sit down eat a cup of peanut butter for a snack?!!!

depends on the saturated fat content. peanut butter is actually an excellent source of protein. i'm sure the assumption is that you eat it with something, like celery or an apple... whatever. however, and entire cup of pb is a lot-- that would probably fill you up in a heartbeat, considering that you might use 2 tablespoons on a sandwich and consider that to be plenty.

I wiegh 145 so I'm taking everything I can get including the fat. Also the fat in nuts can help you raise your testerone which will lead to more energy and faster recovery time. But I'm not saying I was going to get a cup full either. I'll be watching a dvd after a workout and have maybe two or three spoon fulls.

Oh yes I have. I was a broke college student once. I had a "PB lollipop" many times, so I wouldn't have to buy real food and would have more beer money.

Watch out! Saturated fat hardens your arteries and softens other parts of the body!!! Try organic PB

Peanut oil is better of the fats, and fats are not always bad, cause its just calorie, and it burns slower producing more energy. Aslong as you working out hard it will be good, but i read try to not eat more then 65grams of fat.

Love peanut butter, but read the label. Nearly ALL major brands (Skippy, Jiff, Peter Pan, etc) ADD sugar, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED OILS, corn syrup. etc. AVOID these, and go with the freshly ground PB most supermarkets make in -house. Even better, Smart Balance makes an excellent PB - tastes great and excellent nutrition. FYI, fat from nuts can be very desirable, so read up!

Peanut butter is good stuff. Really. Even the major commercial brands are good. For those worried about the sugar, salt, etc. remember that peanuts have to be 90% of the finished product, per the FDA. Most have even a larger percentage of actual peanuts. (usually between 92 and 94%) That doesn't leave a lot of room for the fillers that many seem concerned with. Considering that peanut butter contributes more than 30 essential nutrients and phytonutrients ― like protein, vitamin E, magnesium, phosphorus and manganese ― and have zero cholesterol and no transfats, it is a good food choice.

On a side note, while in BUD/S my son and his friends consumed massive amounts of peanut butter. I lived in San Diego at the time, and they came to my house to wash their stuff. There were always peanut butter packets in their pockets. They eat it constantly as a quick pick-me-up while training.

i eat 2-3 pb&js a day, a good solid snack. personally i dont like the all natural or organic stuff, it has no flavor. you gotta treat yourself sometimes or you will gorge yourself more often.

i'm 6'2 and 165 lbs. I bust my a** working out 5 days a week, and I try to jam as much into my stomache as I can, fat, carbs, calories, protein, sugars. everything except for sodium. if 1 cup of peanut butter has 65g's of protein, that beats the hell out of drinking 3 of those whey protein shakes. i think its just really impractical to eat an entire cup of peanut butter. maybe a peanut-butter milkshake or something.

Very true. I consume so much peanuts and peanut butter it's not funny, at basically all hours of the day.
The sugar in commercial peanut butter is really nothing to worry about at all.
If you eat a lot of it without working out hard you'll certainly put on some weight but if your muscles need recovery, I don't know anything that's better and better-tasting.

Once of my favorite post workout meal/snack is a piece of whole grain toast with peanut butter spread and a big glass of skim/fat free milk. Tons of goods in a mini meal.

Which shakes are you eating!?

An 'average' recommended serving of protein shake should give you circa 30g protein.
So it's more like 2 shakes to get 65g of protein.
