I have have a general question for anyone who happens to know... I live where its cold in the winter and hot in the summer and i wanna run outside but i have to really exert energy to get off more than 2 miles... I was just wondering if this was goiing to get me in shape more when i was running in the cold or if i should just find a gym or something like that where i can run inside.??
Any Input...

Wow, cold in the winter and hot in the summer... you weren't kiddin' about it being a general question.

In general, temerature doesn't matter, you're just going to have to suck it up. If you're not "really exerting energy", then you're not really running anyway, at least not as fast as you should be.

Elevation might be a factor, but I don't think it'll be an issue for you in vagueville.

Ya well some places are pretty mild in the winter maybe the fifties which isnt cold to me at all so i consider that to be an almost all year round warm weather climate

IF you dont want to go out for whatever reason you could stay inside and fatigue your legs.I read somewhere that 10 mins of jumping rope is better than 30 mins of jogging. also you might wanna try some flutter kicks, leg scissors, one legged squats.IF your just looking to get your heart rate up i suggest holding your breath or hyperventilating while doing pushups. You should be able to reach your THR in a matter of mins if not sec depends on your level of fitness.

Running in the cold is supposed to be easier. A scientist did a research on winning marathon times, and the best were ran in the 40 below tempatures.

I live in Minnesota, so it get's pretty damn cold in the winter, and I think it is easier to run when its cold. I just got back from Florida for Thanksgiving break, and I found it much harder to run in the heat, although it could of been the fact that I was running in heavy sand rather than concrete.

Yea i find it easier running in the cold too. I did a 4 mile run in 30 degree weather and freezing rain, with a long sleeve shirt ( not heavy ) shorts and long socks. I believe the body actually receives more oxygen when the air temperature is colder but thats just a theory. Also i'm surprised you still find yourself cold with all those clothes on. Once i get my heart rate up i dont feel a thing, i mean sure my hands were numb and i couldn't feel them but in terms of my actual body being cold . . . not at all.

I agree with everyone else, just suck it up and do it.

Look I don't post here much but am going to throw in my 2 cents worth. If running in the cold is bothersome to you then maybe you aren't in the right mindset. From my experience as a cross country runner every coach I had said that you should practice in the same elements you preform in. Also remember if you are going into any combat arms MOS or plan on going into SOF you will have to do a lot of crappy things. Running in the cold will be very low on the priority list for you when someone is trying to kill you and your friends. Just my opinion and I haven't BTDT.
