Hey guys, just had a quick question for you. Doug I saw a response that you posted a few days ago, giving some info about how your source rate is used in a SEALs platoon. I'm about half way done with college and signing the dotted line with the source rate of PR. I know the discrpition of this rate, but I was just curious how you saw the guys in the Teams with this same rate contributed to their platoon. Thanks for the help, and take it easy.

Cru,

Every rating in a Team, without exception, plays an important role in making the Team successful. There is not one I would consider "better" than another. In your futurre rating for example as a PR (Parachute Rigger), you will be very familiar with not only parachutes, but much safety equipment as a whole. Your rating knowledge will play a very key role should you be successful in making it to a SEAL platoon - before an op (preperation), during an op (action) and after the op (post-op and claenup) you knowledge of safety equipment and proper usage and stowage of such important equipment is imperative in the Teams. For men of all ratings - at your A School - gain ALL the information you can from your school. The smarter you are, the more valuable an asset you will be in the SEAL community if you make it. Good luck.......

Doug, What was your rate? When you return back to the service do you plan on keeping the same ol'e one or a new one?

To Doug and Alll
Doug - I waited until the question directed at you was answered by you. Your reply was complete and covered the topic quite well. But to put a complete wrapper on it I have been waiting for this question to come around again to get it finalized once and for all.

The selected source ratings that the SEALs recruit are for a reason. And the reason is that those are the skills they need to support their combat role. The SEALs do not send out for a photographer to take thier photographs. Nor do they send out for Medical personnel to give medical aid. Nor do they send out for Parachute Riggers to handle their parachutes. The SEALs carry with them their own skills that support themselves.

When in Training under non hazardous conditions the SEAL will do his training, then at a given time the Rating will retreat to their work stations and apply their skills inward toward Team support. They do not send out for help. SEALs support themselves from within.

One more thing about ratings within the SEALS...to cover it in a phrase....."we take care of our own"..........
