when i do some pushups my right arm just starts killing me, its not the bicep i know that, its a little bit above it inbetween the shoulder and bicep. i was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them and could tell me what muscle it is....and also could i have just pulled the muscle and its just temperary?

Its been a while since my days as a Corpsman/EMT, but my best guess is that you've injured one of the biceps tendons that attach the muscle to the bone near the shoulder. Its a pretty common injury as those are fairly vulnerable tendons. If that's it, rest and Ibuprofen if needed should take care of it.

I'm no doctor, but yeah, you've probably got some tendinitis. The general idea w/ tendinits as well as other joint inflammation issues is to RICE...Rest, Ice, Compress, and Elevate, and, again, take Ibprofen or Tylenol, or some other anti-inflammatory medicine. When I had tendinitis, I rested for about a week and a half, took Ibprofen, and I iced it 2 or 3 times a day. I've read that its good to do some 'range of motion' excercises as the pain starts to go away....like holding your arms out and making small and large circles to loosen up your shoulder and connecting tendons. I've always heard about two weeks rest for joint/tendon issues, if the pain doesn't go away by then, go to a doctor...in that case you might be prescribed some physical therapy...I've had to do that before for my shoulders, but I'm sure you can find the therapy exercises online...just don't start doing anything too soon. Also, I use, and a lot of rock climbers use joint supplements called glucosamine, chodroitin and MSM. These supplements supposedly support your joints and help w/ cartiledge health....again I'm no doctor, just sharing what I've learned through my experiences.

Lucky for you, I have an unfunctional wrist. Back when I was younger I used to skateboard and I fractured the hardest bone to heal in my body. After three year of no healing I got surgery on my wrist. They had to bone graph and pin my wrist together. Doc said it a was a 50/50 chance of healing. I got lucky and it healed but my wrist movement is jacked. I cant rotate my wrist properly so i have to do pushups with my fingers pressed agiant the groudn with no wrist support. Were looking into therapy. I'm a little worried the Navy wont accept me but im just hoping they wont notice until Im already in the BUD/S program. Anyways doing pushups is really hard for me because of this. I hope therapy works, Im going back to the doc in a couple weeks.

Oh man, that sucks a lot... cause if you want to become a seal as bad i do, and they dont let you into bud/s, god... i cant even describe how bad i would feel if they wouldnt let me into bud/s for something like that... but if you make it to bud/s and then they find out, i doubt they would kick you out sence you passed the pft and well your making it through bud/s.. Well anyways i hope you can get it fixed up and stuff man, good luck with it... Just keep up what your doing and hopefully something good happens.....

Yah man im right there with you, i love the seals, the community and how they opperate. i'd rather die then not become a seal. i seriusly cant wait, im training like crazy, i come home from school, do homework then workout... on days i have work i come home then homework, workout, then take a swim to cool off, then go off to work. And when i get back from work, well i workout some more...
I noticed in your other post you were thinking about joining in a year, you say your 16 so either your a sophmore, or a young junior... Just make sure you graduate, no diploma no seals....Im just trying to think about to join once i graduate and wait awhile intill i go into the bud/s program.... or train at home after i graduate then go to the seals after basic or as soon as i can....I just cant wait anymore i wish i could go now... But im not the phisicly fit yet, hahah....
Im 17 and a junior i cant wait its gonna be an adventure and something i will never forget. I plan on making a career in the navy maybe become someone that stays in for most of his life... I lovve the military and seals,,, and i cant wait.....

Explain yourself. Let me ask you a question, so if someone was to tell you that there was something wrong with your heart, and there was zero chance of you ever being accepted into BUD/S or any other respectable SOF(Special Operation Force), you would rather die than live the rest of your life?

When i say i would rather die then not go to bud/s its a form of an exageration of how bad i want it.... Like say you went fishing or something and caught a lot of fish say about 20, and 20 is a high number that nobody has ever caught before... Insted of just saying you caught 20 fishes you would say you caught a million fishes just to compare it and say in another way that you caught a lot of fishes.. Well its the same with this... Me saying i would rather die then not go to bud/s is just my comparison to how bad i want to be at bud/s and become a seal...Its a job i want to do and will do anything to do it... But of course, if i had a heart problem i would not kill my self....

Donald, I was talking to Carbine, and mtgman and I were talking about,
No SEALs, no life...
Again, Carbine, if you want to elaborate on this, feel free to do so...

My point exactly.
Dude your speaking ignorance! BUD/s if you remember at all,
gets rid of people, more than pinning them! So don't let the pictures ruin
your regular feelings, for the other things of life.... This is what Indoc tells
every wanabe who shows up!!!!! So do not try, telling me that I'm speaking
ignorance!

it was just an exageration to help support my feelings towards the SEALs.

hey tony hawk--
that scaphoid/navicular bone is a real pain in the butt. also the most commonly injured part of a wrist in a fall. why did you wait three years to allow it to heal? did you do any kind of ultrasound treatment on it prior to the bone graft and pins? additionally, .... you're in houston, right? you're 'looking into' therapy. dude... who's your doc?
a little birdie told me about your injury about 8 years ago.
if you want to go to BUD/s, we should chat. check your email.

That email account is what I used like 4 years ago when I made this account...when all the features were free. Id rather not give you my email cause it is my real full name and I dont feel you need to know that but if you want to talk to me on an instant messaging service such as AIM its NavySEALs043. If you use any others just tell me. And who told you 8 years ago??? Anyways, I would really like to talk to you, please respond.

hope you did well on your test, and weren't distracted by the fly ball that biggio missed/dropped.

I actually got tutored for three very undedicated hours of study. The game was definately distracting us. I did ok on my test, probably a B. Im not a book smart teen, Im failing Pre-Cal at the moment. Not because I am unresponsible, but because of a lack of time from being too busy. I should be passing now though. That home run was complete B.S.

I have a question relating to the original topic. Say I worked out at the gym yesturday, and I am very sore (which is factual). Is it ok for me to do pushups the following day, today? I realize I need to get my pushin' count up. Me and snow had a talk about my wrist so I just tried so more pushups and I did it with relative ease, in relation to pain or stress on my wrist. Oh and snow I would be interested in talking to a Recruiter with you, but maybe towards this summer. I wont need to much advice fro mthe recruiter until I am closer to graduating highschool.

don't blame your grades on not being book smart.
the time thing i understand. the class you're in is difficult by it's own definition, especially for a high school student, but you seem to know if you put in the time, you'd do better. when i was in high school i had to block off time for specific classes. others, i paid attention in class and never cracked a book. if i had ANY free time in school, i did my homework. i was at school at 6am and usually didn't get home until 10 or so at night. doesn't leave much time for the books. time management and discipline, my friend.
i didn't tell you to do MORE pushups. i just asked how that was going to feel when you're doing them all day long. it's painful enough without the trouble you're having. compensating will lead to other injuries-- ones that you definitely don't want/ won't need.
you won't need to speak with the recruiter until later on, you're right. you let me know when you want to go, and we'll go. ideally, if you do have to have an additional surgery on your wrist, you want to give it Plenty of time to heal. your normal routine will probably bring it back to normal strength, and then you'll need to work on push-ups, etc. IF it's not disqualfying, and/or you can get a waiver, (only a recruiter can tell you these things), and IF you have to have a second surgery to correct the problem you're having now, the earlier the better.
