View Full Version : What's This Swimming Technique called??
I have always like to try new ways to swim (and probably should practice it for drown proofing in BUD/S).
now, what's that swimming technique called when you put your arms to your side or behind you and keep your legs together and kinda do a wave through the water.
I can do it pretty well but when I do it I go deeper for some reason...

Any suggestions on how I could work on stop going down when I do it?

Hey man, its pretty simple. most likely, its your head. if you are pointing your head down, chances are your body is too. so try and 'aim' up a bit and you should go straight. it's kinda hard to explain, but just think of that and work with it. had the same problem, had it fixed in about 15 minutes.

Your wrists will be tied behind you and feet bound together at the ankles. You need to keep your head up close to the surface for air, watch where you're going, and to make sure you're not swimming into the guys feet in front of you. A lot of guys start the Drown Proofing test off well, and then they are told to travel the 50M and they think it's a race, wear themselves out, and panic when they get back to their spot in the pool to continue the test.(If you think I'm kidding, try to see how fast you can travel with feet and hands tied 50M, then go back to bobbing up and down in 9ft) The key is to relax, and take your sweet @ss time on the travel, there is no time limit on this test.
Yeah thats why I thought it was good to practice.)) They probably think its a race because they want to impress the instructors?

Impress the Intructors by completeing the test with a pass.

Thats the way to do it
ZerO,
When you are doing a "body dolphin" in the pool you press in with your chest, which causes your hips to rise, and when you release the pressure from your chest, your hips fall as your chest comes back-up. The key is to relax your chin when you press in with your chest and allow your chin to slide forward slightly. Remember not to lead with your head, and although your are pressing in and releasing with your chest all your movement should be directed forward. Your head should remain inline with your spine when you breathe and always breathe looking at the bottom of the pool. When you lift your head up, you force your higs and legs down. You should be able to breathe without interrupting the tempo of your body dolphin. DonW
