Hey guys,

About a year and a half ago I was all set to join the military, and was nearing the peak of my workout routine, but unfortunately I ruptured a disc in my lower back lifting. So where I am now, 25lbs heavier, and I haven't ran in over 12 months. I'm not disabled or anything, I just get a lot of discomfort. I'm going kind of crazy, because not only am I getting plump, but I'd really like to just get out there and go every morning and evening.

I know the first advice is to see my physician to get his advice on starting a program or physical therapy, and getting any further diagnostic tests to check how I'm doing. I never even went back for my follow-up, but I recently got insurance, which makes it an option. So before I get around to that, does anyone have an idea of a pretty good workout that won't put tons of stress on my lower back? I am looking, initially, to lose some pounds, and build up any muscle group that I'd be able. I guess since running is out, that also means jumping rope, leg lifts/flutter kicks (bad for the lower back? I'm not sure..), and sit ups are too.

Getting in shape for SOF isn't my greatest concern at the moment, due to this. I've decided to get through college first, and reevaluate my motivation, and body. Pretty sure nothing is going to stop me from enlisting with the Army (18x/Rep63), though.

Thanks,
Jared

I think that's the only option. No way would I go back to working out without going to the doctor first. And if you now have insurance, why wouldn't you go?

I never even went back for my follow-up,

Now if you keep puting off the important tasks,...What kind of soldier would you make?

AFTER you do your follow-up I bet swimming would be a great activity for you. It's basically stress free and can give you a hell of a workout.

The broke kind. You do have a point though. It's just one of those irresponsible things that I somehow managed to quit thinking about after a while. I'll get on it ASAP.

Thanks for the advice, and keep it coming.

I'm the same way man. I figure as long as it's not hurting anymore it's no big deal. Unfortunately, that train of thought can lead to major injury.

Hey, pose I had back problems sort of like youre's...
You need to stretch, warm-up, and really bite the tongue
and just force the running... I tried everything else but it does
not work... Good luck...
