I understand that Seabee's build things like bridges etc., but I heard someone in another post talk about "Combat Seabees" this sounds very interesting to me. Is this the same as a "fighting seabee"? I'm assuming they do some infantry-type force or security. Can anyone tell me what exactly they do?
Also, if I wanted to go in as a Combat Seabee or a Navy Corpsman working with marines could I get a contract from a recruiter or put in for it while in the navy?
Thankyou for your time

SIGdude,
The SeaBees have the motto " Can Do ". They also say 'We build---We fight " Sea Bees do or at least did ( in the early 60s ) receive training in small arms, automatic weapons, fire team and squad tactics, etc.
All Sea Bees are trained for combat. If you are asking if they are a offinsive unit, the answer is no. Thier primary mission is to build------------with the ability to defend themselvs against enemy attack.
Back then, Sea Bees were accepting 3 out of 100. You had to have knowledge of one of the construction fields.
What I have just said is dated info. and things have probibly changed, Talk to your recruiter and then double check what he says.
Good Luck

MKV detatchements routinely deploy with a SEABEE mechanic and an equipment operator to operate and fix the prime mover and trailer for the MKV. They are also responsible for crane lifts and maintinence issues with the det. There is also an officer or warrant officer that goes out to take care of maintinence and logistics for the MKV. On both of my MKV deployments we used our SEABEES as additional members of the crew. They manned the weapons and distinguished themselves among us. They didn't have the pin, but we lovingly called them our combat SEABEE's.
SEABEES are still trained to fight. Construction batallions are usually at the forefront of the fighting. One notable recent event was that SEABEES in Iraq completed an entire landing strip in 2-3 days, and this was on the war front. They PT hard and are honestly some of the best people I have ever met.
tvlr, your info for the most part is correct. Currently they are accepting unskilled people and training them, just like any other rate in the Navy.
If you are interested in being a SEABEE, I highly suggest looking them up. If you are looking to work with the SWCC or SEALs you are going the need to be the best you can be in your rate, be a 1st class, and get to know the people. Accept difficult assignments overseas and don't give your detailer a moment's rest. Keep telling him you want to work with Special Warfare.
Good Luck to you

You can get your job guaranteed, but where you will work is up to your detailer after you get through boot camp and your A school. You can request things, but it may take until your second tour for you to get exactly what you want. As a Corpsman you may be working with the Marines, or in a hospital. Both areas will give you great experience. As a SEABEE, for the most part they don't really work for anyone but themselves, but take on job where they are needed.
Hope that helps you better than my first post. I got up on my high horse and missed the real question you asked.

Before I reply, I want to let everybody know two things, that:
1) Though I am aspiring to be a Marine, I have no military training, and
2) I am only 17.
With that aside, I'll tell you what I know. I live in Long Beach, Mississippi, and less than a mile away from the Naval Construction Battalion, or Seabee (CB) base in Gulfport, Mississippi. One Seabee told me that seabees recieve some Marine training, and when they go out into the field they actually wear Marine uniforms(after he told me this, he opened up his closet and showed me his uniforms...I'm not sure whether he had his Marine uniforms in there.)
All Seabees are ready for combat, and they do get sent to Iraq so if you become a Seabee there's likely a chance that you'll see it. I don't see why having a title like "Combat Seabee" would make someone better than a regular Seabee, or if there is such a thing, but regular Seabee's DO kick ***. Everybody in my area has immense respect for Seabees.
On a side note, they were very helpful after Hurricane Katrina hit. I think that the base was one of the only places giving gas for about a week, and the Seabees themselves were working hard during all waking hours. Go Seabees!

First off, welcome to the boards. It is really nice to see aspiring military members come on here and post intelligently and contribute to these boards. Good luck with your recruitment. If you need any support, feel free to drop by here anytime.
Just wanted to comment on why I called the Seabee's on my boats Combat Seabees. Alot of the time there is a stigma attached to outsiders in the Special Warfare community, and I would hear occasionally that if you don't have your SWCC pin, your aren't ****... Basically, if you didn't have your COMBAT Crewman qualification, then you did not pull as much weight as anyone else. Well, due to regs, these Seabees couldn't get pins. So, out of respect to what they did, whenever someone started yapping their pie eater about stuff they didn't know about, I would simply state "Thats my Combat Seabee, got a problem with it." Its kind of a joke between us, but it does serve a good purpose. In a small way it is how I show the respect to these fine warriors who would otherwise just be considered "support".
To back you up on the uniform thing, Seabees wear Cammies, but they are Navy issue. They will have US Navy on their chest and Marines will be wearing the Matrix cammis they got a few years back.
And yes... they do kick ***.
I don't see why having a title like "Combat Seabee" would make someone better than a regular Seabee, or if there is such a thing,
Those that have seen the elephant, tend to like to distinguish themselves from those that have not. Are we "better", no......................... just different.

Hey slow down! Your contradicting yourself, I was with BeachMasterOne and
all those, SEABEES are small arms Qualed and they do regular field work also...
Since they were our Boat Mechanics, therefore I have first person facts...
