Goes out to all the A.D. Boat guys ( you too Skims ) for passing out solid info to all the young men who have asked questions about SWCC.

I don't often post here because any info I have is so old it is probibly considered history. ( My last combat patrol was Jan.'71.)

One thing I have noticed though is that even though the selection process and the training have really toughened up, the one constant is that the spirit and the pride remain the same.

If any one is interested, go to www.mrfa.org, scroll down and you will find the monthly summeries of ComNavForV. from 1966 to 1972. It takes a while to download but it covers all Naval Forces in country Vietnam including PCFs, PBRs,MRF and SEAL ops. It makes for some interesting reading.

Once again guys BRAVO ZULU

Thanks tvlr,

And a BZ goes out to you for being part of the elite that set the standards for the rest of us to follow, and shoot for.

The training is one of the toughest (aside from BUD's) but as you know, it's well worth it.

"k" and myself are not the type to pull punches. Anyone contemplating on going SWCC have to already be in a certain mindset before they step onto the grinder for the first time. Like BUD's, SWCC is 60% mental, 40% physical..... But they better be prepared to push themselves 200% just to achieve that 40%....

We don't want slackers, or arrogance..... What we look for is determination, and the willingness to learn....

I'm not going to deter anyone from trying out for SWCC, but I'm not going to flower it up to make it look pretty either.

Thanks again tvlr for blazing the trail for the rest of us to follow.....

Thanks tvlr. We are trying our best. I feel it is a responsibility of everyone in the community to give out good information and encourage people to TRY. There is alot of pride in what we do and that comes from a long line of men who took it upon themselves to be all around warriors. With the greatest hardships come the greatest rewards.

I will check out your site, and please continue to drop by here and share your stories. In fact. I am going to start a thread on that right now.

Do you know shimmel, I met him on westpac.
Do you know if he made it through BUD/s? I saw his class on t.v.
a couple of times, if I remember right he was an ET tech. And another
thing Instructor Hoy was on the same Ship.

I hate you and so does everyone else you have no friends.

Mr. Butts,

That kind of response is not tolerated on this board. You will kindly refrain from responses of this nature. If you do not, myself and the moderators of this board will take action against you to prevent you from taking part in the discussions here.

In short, be constructive or GET THE HELL OUT!

There are professionals here who take their time to respond to questions from people who are interested in contributing to the future of Special Warfare. If you are not one of them you are wasting our time.

As for the question, I for one do not know Shimmel, or Hoy... then again I am an East Coaster. Anyone else know these guys?

Kinnikinik and MK,

It would be greatly appreciated if you 2 would post some kind of profile so we know a little about to whom we speak.

Thanks for your explaination Seymour. Still, MK86 has as much right as you to post here and from what I have seen he posted something reasonable. For the most part I have learned a couple of things about messageboards, most importantly:

Attack the post, not the poster. Personal attacks have no place on boards. Always address the idea separate from the person. This keeps everyone happy.

As for my profile, I prefer not to post a whole lot about myself on here for everyone to read. If you do have any questions about my background or are just curious, you can email my account here at Kinnikinik@navyseals.com. To make it short, I am an East Coast SWCC guy who did primarily MKV deployments. I have talked to Boatdrivers_Babe and skimmer and we know a few of the same people. I am lurking here to to be a sounding board for questions that come up about SWCC, and will be acting as a moderator to keep the discussions civil and on track. I have noticed that there have been a few problems in the past and I want to work to remedy those with the help of the community here.

It is a pleasure to see you here A62. I bow to your superior post count =)

Mk82,

I'm going to tell you something.

You have been asked to fill out a profile. You have yet to comply. Therefore you are either unable to or unwilling to. No matter what the case, we do not know who we are talking to and will question you. Do not be surprised if from now on your posts and/or questions here are ignored.

As for A62. He is a respected member of this site who has paid his dues the hard way. Don't you presume to speak to him in a disrespectful manner.

Seymour, MK82:

I really don't give a rat's patootie about who said what to who about whom. You sound like a sad majority of the sailors in today's Navy with an "it's all about me" attitude. Sadly, very few are honorable and can see outside their personal space, unlike K and his former LPO. You two will fit right into today's Navy.

If you're going to continue have a golden shower contest, give us a break and take it out of this thread and over to the jungle where it belongs.

I'm not even going to point out to either of you that you are misreading your flames and fanning the flames as a result. Oops, I guess I did, didn't I? (Sarcasm intended.)

Arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics; even if you win, you are still retarded.

I asked you nicely and politely to quit flaming, BB did also. Now I will make myself a little more clear and address you both personally. I don't care who said what to whom. I don't care who is pretending to be what. Impersonating a military member, especially a Special Warrior is one of the most deplorable things you can do. I sincerely hope that neither of you would be doing so, and if you are, now is the time to stop. I do not want to hear denials on the topic, I will not respond to them. Simply, if you are: Stop. If you aren't: Stop accusing the other of doing such. I do not want to see links to forums that prove the other is such and such. I don't care. You both had a clean slate that is quickly being tarnished. The best thing for you both to do is issue a simply apology to each other and to the members of this board and move on with your lives. Be constructive members, not destructive.

Remember, attack the idea, not the person. And if you can't say anything nice, shut the hell up.

Thank you for understanding. Thanks for jumping in BB. Nice to see I have some strong support =)

I am sorry for being an *******. Was not having a good day and i am only a 15 yr old boy and never claimed to be anything else. I do have a question though on how you prepared for SWCC training? I would like to pursue a career in the boat guys.

Kinnikinik
09-12-2005, 07:22 PM
No problem... your best bet would be to go to http://www.swcc.navy.mil There are links there to a very good PT program that will get you ready for SWCC as long as you stick to it. Also, it tells you what you need to do to actually get in the program. Honestly, it is a little out of date, but most of the info there is good. If you have any questions after you head there, make a new post and ask about it here. Always willing to help out a potential boat guy.

Personally, I came into this program from the fleet. I got off a deployment with the USS George Washington and my Master Chief asked me if I wanted to take a PT test... the day I got off the boat! Well I did and I passed. I killed the swim, did well on pushups and situps, kinda weak on pull ups, and barely passed the run. I ended up puking at the end. Now I am a good runner, but don't underestimate that test. Throwing all those together at once when you are not prepared is a real kick in the nuts. Things went very quickly after that (note:this is not typical of SWCC applications. Most take a while. I had incredible support from my command) and I ended up in SWCC school a month later. You don't have to go to the fleet first. There are programs that can land you in SWCC school right after boot camp.

To get in, talk to your recruiter. At 15 I don't believe he can legally talk to you, but in high school you will get the chance to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). It is basically a test to see what jobs you would be good at. You can take this test (correct me if I am wrong guys) once every 6 months, so take it early. Do well in school also. It is not a requirement, but it opens up alot of possibilities.

OK, now for a few simply PT things you can do. A great way to increase your pushups is to attempt to do 20 pushups an hour for a whole day, for a week. At the end of the week, bump the number up to 25. Keep doing that until you hit 50 push ups an hour, every hour, for a 12 hour day. That is 600 push ups in a day. From there you should be able to push out 75-100 push ups in 2 minutes which is right where you want to be. Get started now. Do push ups before bed and when you get up. For variety put your feet up in a chair while you do it, or put your feet on the ground and your hands on the chair. (Incline push ups) Make sure you are keeping your back straight. Good form is more important than the number of push ups.

So, since you are in high school, do pushups everytime you switch classes. Challenge your buddies to do it with you. Bet them they can't do it every day for a month... trust me, you will get some muscles if you do this. You don't need weights.

And run and swim. Join the swim team and in the off season join the X-Country team. Football, basketball, baseball and those sports are good, but you will gain much more from doing those individual sports if you are trying to get into SWCC.

Finally, thank you for your apology. Part of being an adult is being able to admit you made mistakes, and face the consequences head on. It may seem difficult at first, but you will find that saying, "I made a mistake. I realize it and I am willing to do whatever it takes to remedy the mistake" will get you out of more trouble than trying to find a good excuse. A popular phase in the Navy is: Excuses are like *******s, everyone has one. Don't be the guy who has an excuse for everything. Just do what you have to do to overcome the obstacle, and carry on.

Some days are good, some are bad, but in the end everything you do comes down to completing the task at hand. It doesn't matter if you are cold, hungry, have a broken arm, hate the person next to you, or are so tired you can't think straight. If you can not put those things behind you and put your mind on the task at hand, you may never make it back from the mission. Think of things as they affect you and ask yourself two questions:

Does this affect me?
Can I change this?

If the answer is no to either question, don't worry about it. You can't change what other people say about you. Its your choice whether it affects you, or it doesn't. Clearing out the things that don't matter, and the things you can't change, allow you to focus on the important things. The things that matter to you and the things that you have the power to change.

And that, Seymour is about all I have in me tonight. You are 15, but you have a view of what you want to do with your life. Don't let anything get in the way of that. Goodnight and I look forward to talking with you again.
