I'd hate to ask yall a stupid question, but nobody else seems to have any answers fo me. My boyfriend just left for basic in Great Lakes to train for SWCC, and I know very little about what he'll be doing. Do yall know if SWCC goes through BUD/S? Really any info on SWCC would be helpful. I've tried the whole search engine thing, and it couldn't even tell me specifically what he'll be doing. And just how dangerous is it? If anybody has any information on SWCC it would really help me out. Web sites, books, statistics, or even just a first hand description would be helpful... whatever you got. Thanks...

No stupid questions, glad to have you here. He is going to train to be a boat guy. His main job if he makes it though will be to operate high speed boats in special warfare situations. You are right, there is not much online about it. SWCC are decendant from the PT boats in WWII and the River Rats in Vietnam. If you want to get an idea of what he will be doing I suggest you look up both of those on google.
There is one famous boat guy movie out there, and unlike Navy Seals starring Charlie Sheen, this one won two Academy Awards (Navy Seals was just shut out by Dances with Wolves in 1990, damn the man!), so if you want a stylized version of what his job is (remember its just a movie) check out Apocolypse Now.
As for safety, the program is extremely rigorous (very similar to BUDS), but the instructors are highly trained in injury prevention and accident management. From my experience, Special Warfare operators are some of the most safety concious people in the world. That is not to say he won't get hurt, or call you up saying he feels like he is going to die. The program is made to push you past your pain threshold and make you realize that your body can do much more than your mind thinks it can.
I hope that helps you a bit. If you have anymore specific questions, please feel free to ask them here.

You're welcome.... You've got two "Boat Guys" that are here and willing to help. If we can't answer your questions, then we will find someone who can.
One thing we will not discuss is details. We can give you generalized answers and lead you to websites or publications, but that's about it.
We are professionals first. Your boyfriend will be in great hands, his safety will never be compromised, it's just up to him to allow himself to let go of his limitations and fears....
Here's a website for you. It gives great information, but unfortunately it looks like a typical Navy commercial.
