I understand that to be SWCC you have to know navigation and such, is that generally hard to learn? (i.e. does it require lots of math and such?)
Any reply would be helpful, thank you.

They teach you navigation..... If you can read a compass or a chart (map), and know how to do some math(ie: 1" = 1mi.),
Then you can learn navigation.... It's a no sweat.

You can teach a monkey to navigate.
You have to know magic to communicate.
And you should know more than God to do Intel. (And be less reliable than the weatherman)
Hey, they teach BM's to be SWCC.

I was in class 38 in 2001.
I remember sitting in the chow hall during 9/11 wondering where I would be in the next year. Fairly interesting stuff. I don't think anyone came to check on us for about four hours. The base was just dead... the next day though, wow, there was a whole new level of motivation on the beaches.
I was actually one of the few CT's who made it through there before they cut out the full SWCC experience for them. On a side note, if there are any CTI's or CTT's (even some CTR's) reading this, Tactical Cryptologic Support is recruiting Cryptologic Technicians to the TCS course. You go through the same basic PT course that the SEALs and SWCC guys go through, and then when they split off into their programs you go and do your own thing. Very cool stuff, and in the end you will be deployed with either a Seal Platoon (CTI) or a SWCC MKV Detatchment (CTT).
So, what class were you in? Boy do I love BMs.

Do you have a son and what is his first name? We might know you. NSGA Winter Harbor?

No son yet. Actually I just got married and the wife is pregnant with our first. We don't know what it is yet, but if you'd like I'll keep you all updated on that.
I know there was a Master Chief Knudson who was a CTT when I first got in the Navy. I kept getting invited to these admiral's conferences as a Seaman Recruit and I had no idea why.
I was stationed at NSGA Norfolk for quite a while before I went to SWCC school.

Was there another T brancher who went through with you or right before you? There weren't many CT's who were going through about then. We've lost touch w/this one and were wondering how he's doing.

Send me an email at Kinnikinik@navyseals.com and I will talk to you about my friends. I don't want to give out names in an open forum like this. I may be able to help you get in touch with them again. Was he on the East Coast or the West coast?

Not a problem, K, I think we all know the same person. I wouldn't want any names out here either as this is an unsecure net.

K-
First let me apollogize for not responding quickly. I don't frequent these boards that much anymore, unless I feel the urge to catch up on gossip....
I went through back in '95 class 08.... Twelve weeks of pure poop. Seriously, I had a great time....
I was a BM2 then and made the choice to crossrate to MA because of easier advancements. Back then, MA wasn't a source rate in SWCC so I was transferred to NSGA Winter Harbor.
What did they give you as a callsign (if they still do that now)?

I had a bunch, but the one that finally stuck with me was Bobcat.

Bobcat???
I don't know if I want to know the story behind that one.....
Mine on the other hand was "Trip Hazzard"
I tripped the boat one day and launched the Boat Officer..... It was awsome....

I was doing the amateur boxing tourney they throw every year and they just started calling me that. One of my pieces of equipment is called a Bobcat. Sorry mine isn't as exciting as yours. I did end up winning my fight though, so that is something.
I would have loved to see a boat officer go flying.
One story that was flying around the unit was that they were giving a Senator and his little daughter a fam ride on a RHIB. It was a little rougher than they thought it was going to be and she would not stay in her seat. Well, they did a quick turn and hit a wave on their quarter and threw her right off the boat.
Man, that had to be hilarious. I wonder which Boat Officer's face was whiter, yours or they guy who just launch a senator's daughter into Chesepeake Bay.

Hmmm, I'd say the Oficer who just launched the Senators Daughter..... LOL!!!!
After that I bet the boat officer couldn't command a CRRC!!!
I was stationed in San Diego when they ran a MK-V into the stern of a PC during a pass and review for some foreign dignitary.... It broke the MK-V's back and she sank in the harbor.... But with dignity so I'm told. LOL.
Crap dude, I've got dozens of stories.... Anytime you want to talk, just toss me an e-mail.
