Seeing as how they're both part of NAVSPECWAR, I was just curious if you were in SWCC and you decided you would like to try out for SEALs if the transfer would be easier (paperwork and eligibility, not physically) than just coming straight out of the fleet?

I do know people that have done it. Trying to go from SWCC to SEAL probably isn't exactly going to go over well with the rest of the SWCC the command. However, a person at SWCC will probably have a better chance to work out, and will probably have met many SEALs before getting to BUD/s (Not allways a good thing). That said, a person at SWCC would probably have a good chance of getting their package submitted since I believe it's still that all the O's at a SWCC command are SEALs. Not sure that helps.

Yes, all O's at the SWCC units are SEALS. There is a new warrant officer program for Boat Guys, so you will see SWCC WO's running around. I have seen a few people try to switch over. Honestly, the package is easy. They figure if you can make it through SWCC you have a shot of making it through BUDS. I have seen people have problems. The most common are:

1. They get hurt. This is sometimes unavoidable, but some of the guys who go through this transfer are older and the boats do tend to beat you up.

2. They wonder why they are going through this **** again. It sucks going back to ground zero. It doesn't matter who you are before training, in training you are all equal. You are nothing until you get that pin.

3. Family issues. You went through SWCC young and single and you are trying to go through BUDS old and married. SPECWAR guys have a high divorce rate for a reason. It is not a good thing to be dealing with family issues AND dealing with high intensity training like BUDS at the same time.

Still, others make it though and have great careers. My suggestion is: if you want to be a boat guy, be a boat guy. If you want to be a SEAL, be a SEAL. Don't try to get your foot in the door by going through SWCC because it is easier. A. It is not. B. You don't want to be stuck in a job you don't really want to be in. C. The Special Boat Teams don't want SEAL wannabees, they want Boat Guys.

Also, remember, if you fail out, most likely you will be out of both communities. That is definitley something to consider.

awesome, thx to both of you for your help. i also agree that if you want to be a boat guy, u should be a boat guy, and if ur intent is to become a SEAL, try out as such. again thank you for your responses.
