I WAS IN THE NAVY AND HAVE BEEN OUT FOR TWO AND A HALF YEARS, I WOULD LIKE TO GO BACK IN AND GET INTO THE SWCC PROGRAM. MY RATING AT THE TIME OF DISCHARGE WAS IC2. I SHOULD BE THE SAME WHEN I GET BACK IN OR IC3 NOT SURE YET. IS THERE ANY SPECIAL PROGRAMS I CAN GET INVOLVED WITH WHILE I'M IN GREATLAKES TO HELP ME PREPARE FOR SWCC AND THE SCREENING?

YEAH! TURN OFF CAPS DUDE!!!

Ooohh... the Great Lakes.... damn.

My advice is bust your *** with the BUD/S Warning Order. Bust your *** what ever you do, when you watch TV, do flutterkicks. When your upper quads and abs are dead from that, do pushups. When you can't do anymore no matter how hard you try, do some more and bite into a lemon and chew the peel. I don't know about the lemon part, it just sounds badass, but you should do one more push, it IS possible. Don't workout the same muscle groups on consecutive days, you would only be tearing yourself up.

Lower body one day upper body the next.

Eat well, salads CAN fill you up (yes I know, it sounds ridiculous). Chicken is great stuff too.

About the salad, I don't even use dressing, it is waayyy too fatty.

If you REALLY want to get scientific eat 30% fat 40% carbs and 30% protein.
Shoot some guns, have a good backstop and wear muffs or plugs. Hit what you're pointing at. When you shoot, don't sit on your *** or lay in the prone position, stand up and shoot offhand, it is a lot harder and will improve your crouch and prone positions. If you can shoot well offhand, you can definately shoot great while on your *** or stomach. Then run a mile and pickup your gun and start shooting again, you'll have to slow down your breathing or else you wont hit ****, it'll be great fun.

Damnit, now I want to shoot... see ya later dude, I'm going to kill me some safeway popcans.

Take all this with a grain of salt, I was kinda trying to have some fun with it, take the serious stuff to heart. Good luck on SWCCs man. Turn off your caps

Thanks I'm on it, I am looking for a means of honing out my swimming skills though. I am a fast swimmer and have good endurance but I just can't seem to get the side or breast stroke right. I need some lessons in this area.

If you are not in the Navy yet there are Master's Swim programs at most swimming pools. This will hook you up with a coach who can help you with your swimming storke and push you with workouts. If you are in the Navy, post what you are trying to do in a gym or look for your group of BUD/S, SWCC, or Diver/EOD hopefuls. I have not been on a base yet that does not have a group of people who support and push each other towards this goal. If you don't find one, create one and share your skills. There are videos you can get online that will help you, but if you go this way, watch them with a friend and have him tell you what you are doing wrong. One last thing with swimming. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Make each stroke count. The fastest swimmers take the fewest strokes per length of the pool... oh, and practice sprints with your distance. You will never be fast if you just swim distance.

The type of swimming you will be doing in SWCC training will be mostly with full BDU's. This is a whole new ball game when it comes to swimming. The side stroke is the quickest and most efficent way of swimming with BDU's. Swimming freestyle is no good when you have 15 pounds of wet sleeves out of the water. This is one of the biggest reasons for people to get dropped in the early part of training. You will have to pass a swim test to become a certified a first class swimmer. You will get some time to practice this in the first few weeks of training but it will come down to making it or getting the boot. Practice tying knots underwater as well. Be sure you have the life gaurds watching you while honing this skill incase you have a shalow water blackout. I was a great fin swimmer when I went through SWCC and was suprised at the difficulty of swimming long distances in BDU's. Once you get the method dialed it makes it a lot easier. Just remember side stroke. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
