Im at A school right now so take my advice or dont but what most of you are doing is a waste of time like breath holding you wont do it till you get to bud's so your looking at minimum 3 months from start of boot to bud's MINIMUM. And when you get here if you do any breath holding techniques they WILL take your contract if you do it without supervision of one of the dive motivators so thats that. Also understand that when you get to boot you will wait till your 3rd week counting p-days to go try out for SEAL's and MOST FAIL i did it with 15 people some in really good shape or so i thought and only 3 of us made it past every thing most failed the swim or situps. SO instead of holding your breath work on your stroke and your situps. You will not swim while in boot so be good before you get or if you arent good go to stroke development or go just to get a little more swim time. Also stay motivated in boot its easy as hell bed at 10 wake at 6 its a joke but you never pt we pt'd once maybe twice a week. I just did pushups before i went to bed and pullups on the curton rod in the "bath room" for you civilians or the Head as we say here. But we had 3 people going SEAL in my division and non of them even tried they failed before they got started so be serious about it and remember why you joined. Anyways im out ill try to answer questions if you have any about boot and stuff like that but remember im still a gonnabe thats still in school but ill be in bud's class 257 i think. Still waiting for my orders.

How was bootcamp overall? Was it enjoyable at all? I'm not really looking forward to it. It looks like it's going to be pretty damn boring, and it seems like there's not much time to workout.

thanks for the advice dude, sounds good. For situps, do you get to have someone holding your feet, or how does it work. Also, for the pst, do the puchups have to be done a certain way. Great advice though, thanks. I'll work on my swimming, if I can find a pool...
Hooyah!
If you don't mind me asking, what were ur final scores for the fitnes test???

Thanks for reporting back to us. You made it through the BUD/s pft there, how strict were they on the pft about push/pull/sit up form? life if you did 30 the right way and did 31st the wrong way, you start all over? also, how was the running?

Boot Camp is a joke seriously i was expecting it to be somewhat a challenge i was wrong. Its a lot of hurry up and wait and marching oh and dont want to leave out the ironing lots of that every night. I got yelled at when i first got there cause i had a grin on my face the whole time while all the petty officers were yelling while waiting for gear. They eventually just called me smiley. It was hard for me to take them seriously but alot of people had problems with that first unofficial week (P-days). That week is the hardest and that really isnt even hard you wont sleep for 3 days.

Ok as for the pst its done like this you do your swim not much explaining there. Pushups are done with your pants on when your doing the pushups your belt buckle/chest should pretty much touch the deck err floor. 2 min break then situps. This was the tough one for every one pretty much. Feet flat on deck knees touching and your counters hands lock underneath your knees and there knees are resting on your feet there performed by coming all the way up your hands are crossed touching your shoulders but not grabbing your shirt and our elbows have to touch your knees when coming up when going down your back has to be pretty much flat but you can use your arms and kinda swing them to get back up but your never letting go up your shirt. Hope that makes sense and there are people watching a senior chief in my case and he told the counters when not to count them if they were bad so form matters but you dont have to start all over just from the last good one. pullups all the way down all the way up. Bar has tape on it so grip shouldnt be an issue and no neck streching your chin needs to go over. For people that didnt make situps for instance you will go all the way to pullups then part ways from the people that made it. The run mine was inside 12 laps is a mile and half yell what lap your on pretty straight forward. Ok well hope that helps out.

DMANN, you sound ready for BUD/S, and I'll bet you'll make it to the teams. good luck. on the pst, are the pull-ups done like chin-ups with your palms facing you or with your palms facing out? Should we practice sidestroke or freestyle?
thanks for the help, have fun dude.

You do your pullups with your palms out and thumbs closest too you they cant be wrapped around the bar.
As for swimming i would do side and freestyle hell throw in breast stroke mix it up you can do side stroke and i belive breast stroke for the pst i did side. Just push you self in your swims one day swim fast and hard to get that stamina the next go distance for the most part just being in the water will help.

Thanks dude. I surf in the cold waters of northern california, so I'm pretty good in the water. I'll try to find a pool or something near by to practice my stroke and stamina. With regards to preparing for BUD/S, I figure if I can push myself as hard as possible, by myself, motivation at BUD/S will come easy, with all my classmates and instructors yelling at me. Good luck, I'm out.

Hey DMANN, I think that your post was very informative A+. I have a question about the 1.5 run in the SEAL PFT. It says boots and pants or cammies. Did you get to use Bates 924's while running, if not were they hard to run in? Do they give you cammies or can you bring your own from home?
Thanks
Hey DMANN, I'm leaving in 6 days to Great Lakes for basic and in my contract I have the SEAL challenge. I was wondering if you had any pointers that might come in handy. Another thing is how far in basic before you do the PFT. I have herd many different answers but you just went threw it so I figured that you would know. Thanks in advanced.

I'm figuring i'll get an average of 3 hours of sleep mon-fri unless i have watch it will be like 30 mins...

I got to go end of 2nd beginning of third week to try out. Then once you pass you get to go to dive motivators if your RDC's allow you too its up to them and your training schedule. Only tip i can really give you is remember why your coming here and focus on your school once you get out of boot cause if you fail that you end up undesignated and your *** is chipping paint for 2 years. Good luck and also remember dont take anything personally every one gets in trouble for something its just business for your RDCs. Just laft it off.
OH yeah dont take ANYTHING with you no matter what your recruiter says all you need are the cloths on your back every thing else the navy provides.

Man i wish we got to run more. Its a little cold starting off but once you get going it feels great but all i can say is there are some people who really need to think about what there getting into there were about 10 that were just dragging *** alot of them were ones that were dragging *** the run before this one.

The swim will be in a lap pool. Your allowed to push off the wall. As for the flip turns, only stroke I know where you flip turn is for freestyle, which is not allowed. The only strokes you can do are the breaststroke and sidestroke.

Dive is pretty good but its only twice a week. Your gonna feel some tension when you get here being that your going SEAL alot of the "brass" here doesnt like spec ops or people going that way and they make it as hard as they possibly can on you. You will understand when you get here.
Hey DMANN, Thanks for all the info that you provided. I go to MEPS for the last time tomorrow and ship out to basic. I will also do what you’re doing right now DMANN, answer questions about my experiences in basic, of course when I get to a-school.

That run was fun, suprisingly the cold wasn't that bad. Especially after the sprints it was a bit warmer. Soon we're gonna go back to Mon, Wed, Fri probably in the next week or so. I'm in IT A school also, 838. About watch, I told my section leader and asked him to keep me off on Mon, Wed nights and Tue, Thur mornings so I only really need to worry about weekend watches which aren't so bad. How'd you guys like the leg workout today? (the 29th)

Yea I've been talkin to our boat crew leader and he said we're going back probably in the next 2 weeks, I was wondering if we were going to go back even this week but Senior didn't mention anything. It sucks for you being an eves man, I only know one eves guy from 838 and one from 839, and with our school PT life's gonna suck for you especially if we do a leg workout and you go to sleep after hehe.

Hooyah 838 eves, soon to be only 839 eves ... also known as the living dead. I particularly liked the ab and neck workout this past Thursday.
Here's to hoping I'm in the August class; I still need orders. Every one I know is going into the August class (257.)
For all those people who keep talking about joining; less talk, more do.

Hey guys... I'm a lurker on this site. I've been following this site for about 2 years now, and I think it's given me some EXCELLENT information! I'm training my best, and I graduate from FSU in December. I'll be shipping off for basic a week later, looking at a BUD/S class in late 2006. Hooyah!
