Hello everybody. I am planning on either joing the Corps, or the Navy by the end of the summer. Marine Recon of Navy SEAL is my two choices of what I would like to try to become. My question is for the personal opinions of what anyone on the forum would do if they were in my shoes. You see I will be 23 years old when I join. Now on one hand I could join the Navy and if everything works out well be on a team within a year and a half or so. Now If I went Marines I would get the Recon contract for Battalion Recon. But i have read that It could take anywhere from 3-5 years to even be eligible to try out for Force Recon. Since the age limit is 28 I believe, there is a chance that by time I could be eligible that I might be too old. So basically my question is what anyone thinks about my problem . Thank you

I am not sure on the current standards. I joined Bn Recon at 25, you should be able to make a name for yourself and generate FR leads while you are in. I took a 2 rank hit when I switched from Army to Marines.
I was operating as an E-3 at 27 years old. I don't think that age would be an issue if you do well in the bizz..everything can be waiverable.
As for the Navy, I don't know. But you should make a choice soon, and give it your all.

Thanks....I gave it my all.
X is pissed that I did not sell my Harley to continue our litigation. The boys would have hated that, since they love that back seat.
Again, Thanks....I needed your positive feedback.
SIDE NOTE:
Being things are they way they are, truly sad for now....But hold fast, stay in your boys' lives as much as possible----cards, clothes, love/affection, constructive discipline as needed/when you can and an FYI---try not to bad mouth their mother...if you know what I mean (they love her, too).
I suspect and have seen it happen with many friends down the years that by the age of 12, 14 or so, minors are allowed to make CHOICES as to whom they choose to live with.----Stay abreast of current laws regarding this.
Make as much $$$ as you can for now....later you'll need it to have the boys WITH you. This skirmish is done but the battle ain't over! Make for yourself a good credit-rating. Purchase tangible assests (land being THE best solution per your situation----no care needed with land). Start a savings account.
Get the best legal advice thru the years and learn the laws regarding custodial battles....you'll learn some surprising things.
Fair winds to ya!

Thanks for your post ReconTommy, I appreciate your input. I wanted to try for Seals but for some reason I think I would rather do Marines. If I didnt make it I would be stuck being just a sailor on a ship . But If i dont make Recon i would still always be a Marine. If you dont mind me asking what was recon indoc and RIP like, Isn't it the same that Force Recon does? I know that you do the Marine PFT, I beliece an 8 mile Ruck, the PFT again , and some swimming. Did you have to do any thing like drownproofing like you would do at BUD/s?
Thanks
Andrew
