should i keep running a 1 mile or so until i reach 8:30 time because right now im not and i think it would be a bad idea to run more miles w/o a 8:30 pace
so should i keep running more miles or focus on 8:30 per mile time and then go on

run more miles. by the time your body gets the heart-rate needed for good quality cardio training, you are already done. run miles at a slower pace and slowly cut your pace time and then run a mile and see how much your pace time is reduced. from the sounds of it, you have just started running. its not a bad thing, but if you plan on running long distances in a short amount of time, one mile wont cut it. try running 2 miles or 3 miles with a 10 minute pace

Are you running in shoes or boots?? If starting, run in shoes until you are really good at it.

PACE YOURSELF, keep the same pace off the starting line as you do when you're finished. Don't start faster than you finish. Good luck bro

I have a similar question but don't want to clog up the forum with the same topic. I can run long distances up to 6 miles with no problem. But when I do a 1.5mi to see what I’m at I can’t get better then an 11:15. Should I keep running long distances or practice running short distances with a faster pace? I want to be able to run the 1.5mi in 10:30min before I ship out in 19 days.

If you have oinly 19 days, run your f*cking *** off. There is no room for fine tuning in your situation.

Anthony 7929 go to your local library and see if they have a book called "Get Tough". I think the author is Tom Fitzgerald. It has a good running program in it. If you follow it your speed and distance will both improve. The author is a retired SEAL Captain if I remember right. He wrote it after he retired in the 80's so some of the ideas might be along the lines of old team pt training. Good luck

when i was first starting to run, i was doing 8:30 pace, and had real hard time getting over 1 mile. i was doing this for about 2 months when i was like, "screw it, i'll run slower and longer". so i toned it down to 10 minute mile for 4 miles. so my running schedule was like:

1st-3rd week
M: 6.5mph @ 4mi
W: 6.8mph @ 4mi
F: 7mph @ 4mi

4-6thth week
M: 6.8mph @4mi
W: 7.0 mph @ 4mi
F: 7.2mph @ 4 mi

7th week
M: 7.0mph @ 4mi
W: 7.2mph @4mi
F: 7.4mph @ 4mi

and so on. it's a slow progression...but it works for me. i'm not sure what will work for you. it's only been 3 months since i've began my own work out schedule, and now...i'm doing 8:30 @4mi with no problem at all. and some tuesday and thursdays, i do 6:30 pace for 1.5-2 miles.

one of my friend who runs marathon told me to remember LSD (Long Slow Distance, not the drug LSD)
when trainning to run faster for longer.

hope this helps.

and for you other people who run better than me, what do you think about my running?
