I'm almost 16 and im in the Sea Cadets right now. Im going through boot camp this summer, probably at Norfolk because it tis the closest. Ive wanted to be a SEAL for a long time and joined the Sea Cadets because it said it gives you a taste of SEALs at SEAL Team Training in July. Im aware its 20 days but i was wondering if its anyhting like real SEALs or nothing at all.Ive read all the requirments for it, and can pass them all now. So please let me know if its worth it to go over the summer, or not. Thank You,

norfolk is an awesome place. i stayed their last april vacation, the naval base is HUGE. but anyway, i dont think that they will give you real SEAL training because if they give it to you now, it wont be a huge challenge for you when you go to BUD/S. but im sure they will kick your *** one way or another

Hey, I'm in Sea Cadets too, and was trying to get into SEAL trianing this summer, but my old CO was fired, and the new Captain had to get everything figured out, and now it's getting to late to get it all done correctly. But from what I've heard, it's nothing comared to the real thing. There are real SEALs leading the evolution, and they make you cold, tired, and miserable, but BUD/S is BUD/S. I do know that they have a like a 2 - 3 day "Hell Week" type of deal. Again, nothing compared to the real thing, but enough to give you a taste.

As for bootcamp, if it's like mine, get ready for some fun hell. At the time mine sucked, we had a few Marine Snipers that wouldnt get off our asses. I was the RPOC (Recruit Petty Officer in Command), and even though it was an honor to hold the position, it did get pissy when I had to do pushups for my company screwing up. Oh well, the more we became brothers, the less pushups I had to do. By the last day, it was great, we had to keep it together, but we could taste the victory. Kinda gives you a taste of how that saying goes "Nothing lasts forever".

Anthony89,
Hell yeah, its worth going to! I'm 15 and I will also be going to bootcamp this summer (probably in Georgia). My goal in the Sea Cadets is to pass SEAL Team Training, its basically why I joined. I don't think they'll let me attend SEAL training this year because of my age, even though I can pass all of the physical requirements easily. Do you have to be 16 to go to SEAL training? I have a Petty Officer 1st class in my unit who went there (he is also a starting linebacker for the state champion HS football team, so he's in excellent physical condition). He said it is tougher than it sounds. He didnt graduate because he did something to his ankle. But from what he told me, they do everything from log PT, surf passage and torture, conditioning hikes, and lots of other stuff. He also mentioned that they learned a little bit about small unit tactics. But...yeah, it is definitely worth going to if you want to be a SEAL. If you go this summer, fill me in on the details.
