Right now, Im in community college(planning to end a university), and would like to join a branch of Special Forces be it Army or Marines, maybe the Navy. Im enjoying school and i would like to complete a degree before i join any form of military. So my question is, are Officers needed in the Special Forces program, how do things work, whats required of me,etc. I know i may seem like a jackass, asking questions when im not to sure about the questions themselves, just looking for a little guidance and information. Also, what branch of Special Forces do the Marines or Army offer? I've heard of force recon, but only in the movies, and are Rangers considered special forces? thanks.

No Rangers are not considered special forces, they are in Special Operations, different deal all together, one is an elite infantry unit and Special Forces is more unconventional warfare, guerilla warfare among many other specialties. Yes S.F needs officers its a little bit longer trail than signing up with an 18 X contract but you can do it. You basically have to spend about an extra 2 years in training and in the regular army before you submit your packet, or you can go to National Guard unit and get in much quicker. Look into the guard option for officers, definantly.

Thanks very much for the replies Rob. I read what the 18x is about, and it seems to be for enlistees only. Do you, or know of the name of the program/contract i should be searching for to attend the SF as a Officer? Also you reccomended National Guard, would ROTC also be a consideration? Last thing, is there a faq or any information pertainng to the PT test? and what is the 'Q' people keep mentioning? i know i seem clueless, this is the first time i've been to this part of the site

You wont find much on the OCS program, yeah I have several friends who went through ROTC then went to their units, put in their packet and some went to ranger school first then got into selection then the Q course. Q stands for Qualification.

yeah about 1 and a half to two years of qualification, go to the Army Website and click on the s.f. link and it will briefly explain the Q course. Oh and very physical and very mental, russian is killing me!
