First off, yes I have searched. I just need some clarification. Does this timeline make sense?
Graduate High School
Get 4-year degree, graduate
Enlist, apply for BUD/S (SEAL Challenge if available)
Pass BUD/S
OCS to become an officer?
Basically, once you have a 4-year degree, would it make sense to apply for BUD/S as an enlisted guy until you pass, THEN go to OCS. I hear that it is harder for officers to get into BUD/S, so can you become an officer AFTER you get through BUD/S? Is that even possible?

Yes it's possible.
Pass BUD/S
OCS to become an officer?
I may be wrong here but I do believe you will need to "operate" for awhile before submitting OCS package.
They ain't going to take you right out of BUD/s.

you're not a SEAL once you get out of BUD/S. think of it as an initiation. you must serve some time with the teams before you get the trident. but an actual SEAL could desribe it better then me

What if you graduate from college, want to get to BUD/S but also be an officer? How do you go about that?
How do you even enter as an officer? Do you apply as an officer instead of enlisting like normal or something? Do you specify you want to go to BUD/S or what?

I'm currently going that route so i'll pass on what my recruiter told me. For those of us that didn't go the the academy or through ROTC you apply to OCS to be an officer. When you apply you apply for a "job". That job can be surface warfare, nuke, NFO, SEAL, etc. Specifically for the SEAL program you submit a package to the Special Warfare Command review board. They receive over 200 applications annually and select 16 people to attend BUD/S. Your package includes all of the things that are included in an enlisted person's package: medial eval, psych, hyperbaric pressure, PFT, etc. In addition your package will include your application to become a Naval Officer and application for a security clearance. All of these docs are reviewed by the board which meets twice a year. If you are well qualified you will be offered one of the slots to attend BUD/s and a commission. From there you attend OCS and are assigned to a BUD/s class. Since PFT scores are always a hot topic around here, here is the informatin I got from the Officer in Charge of Officer applicants to BUD/s:
"A competitive profile would be an applicant with a good overall package.
We look at a GPA or 3.0 or better from a good school without alot of
'withdrawals, F's or D's. We like language and varsity sports. PRT scores
that impress us are sub 9 minute swim and runs, over 120 push-ups and
situps, and 25 pull-ups. We select 16 OCS applicants a year and receive
over 200 applications."
The bottom line is that to go this route is very hard as I have discovered. I met with my recruiter for the first time over a year ago and have been working hard on my application package since then. They are looking for the best.
DW,
Why not put in your pakcage for BUD/s as enlisted and then do a plt or two and then apply for OCS??? The odds are much better of getting to BUD/s that way.
